So for the last few days I have had a problem seeing lights while I'm driving. I see a ghost image of a light right above the actual light. Headlights, tail lights, street lights, and all other types of light. Then I realized driving my wife's Explorer that this didn't happen. So I did a little testing and it only happens with the Tacoma and about mid way to top of the windshield. If duck my head down to near the steering wheel, it goes away. It just started this week and I've had my Taco since Sept 19th. It's very strange. It also just recently started getting cold. Maybe the cold is affecting the windshield and a mix with my eye problems is causing me to see double?

Do you need to know, or care?
I wear glasses and have never had this phenomenon. All clear for me.

I'd guess it's a combination of glass reflections and particular eye conditions. Talk to your optometrist - maybe something can be done w/ your prescription to minimize this. Another idea is to try applying a clear window tint (ie. no actual tint, just heat/radiation reflection) - that may be just enough of a change to help.

The coolest option is to get laser eye surgery done. I wore glasses for about 15 years and had Lasik done about 1.5 years ago. Best $3k I've ever spent. I went from a prescription of -2.25 in both eyes to 20/20 vision exactly 22 hours after the 60-second surgery. A day later my vision was "better than perfect" at 15/20, and has remained at that number so far. (I do anticipate it getting worse with time.)

Mlatner, I've noticed the exact same thing on my 17. It drives me crazy, I feel like my eyes are constantly trying to adjust. I even went so far as to put a ceramic window tint on my front windshield to help reduce glare. It makes a minimal difference. Did you ever find a resolution? I've already filed a complaint with the service department

Sounds like a serious safety issue. Recall in works?

In my opinion it really is. Messes with my depth perception, especially at night. I hate to say this but I've contemplated ditching the truck over this, and I'm a die hard Toyota fan. I currently have 5 other Toyotas and have never experienced this before. I'm guessing it has something to do with the angle of the windshield at the top third. If that's the case I think that any laminated windshield oem or aftermarket replacement will have the same issue.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
yes, my 2005 tacoma did it too. Dealer replaced windshield for me once back in 06. Still did it. They admitted seeing it too but we looked at other trucks on the lot and saw it there too so they said it was "a normal characteristic".

Mine does this as well. I got Lasik surgery soon after I got my truck and I thought my eyes were messed up! I finally figured it out when I leaned forward to grab something the double vision went away. Just depends on the angle of the window. Still annoying but I don't notice it as much any more.

Yeah I noticed it Friday actually lol. I thought it might've been something to do with my sunglass lenses being polarized.

The only way to fix this is to apply an anti-reflective coating film to the windshield. Perhaps 3M has something.

Was gonna say YEAH that could happen.
But sorry, I don't wear glasses...and my windshield isn't doubled.

I have same issue. I notice it only at night with oncoming headlights. I wish I could actually lower the seat. My head is about an inch from touching the headliner. So I always see it. I don't want to be one othe those guys with their seat leaned far back, and I got short arms.

Actually yes. That's the joke at work. The guys will ask me to do/grab something higher up, and then remind me that I must have descended from a trex instead of apes/mammals. Fire station humor is always a given.

No glasses worn here and pretty perfect vision. Maybe that's the problem. Vision is so good I notice stuff very few others do... My polarized sunglasses all but eliminated this issue during the daytime, but couldn't wear them at night. I figured I would tint the front window so it would help during nighttime driving when I wasn't wearing glasses. I tinted as light as possible with ceramic tint but still doesn't seem to eliminate the problem and now when wearing my polarized glasses during the daytime I see rainbows through the windshield. Ugh.

Anybody have any updates on this or fixes? Its driving me crazy...

Honestly, I try to only drive the truck during the day now...When I can wear my polarized RayBans and mostly eliminate the ghosting. I'm wondering if replacing the windshield with an aftermarket (one that doesn't have the acoustic layers) will fix the problem. Anyone else come up with any alternative solutions?
