Has anyone here either been in, or in some way had an experience with, a severe crash involving a 3rd Gen Tacoma? Not a minor wreck but a substantial collision? Where the question of if the vehicle is totaled or not is eclipsed by the need of human survivability. If you had such an experience, how do you think the 3rd Gen performed? How in your judgement did the Tacoma fare relative to the circumstance? I have watched the crash test videos but I am interested in first hand real world accounts.

I’ve responded to a T-bone type collision where the Tacoma was struck dead center on the drivers side by another passenger car traveling approximately 50mph. Intrusion was around 10-12” into the passenger compartment if I remember correctly. Driver was fine and refused transport. He was the only one in the vehicle. I had just bought mine and remember being impressed how well it held up and by the amount of airbags that had deployed.

Occupant safety has shown to be good to very good. However, it doesn't seem to take much of a hit to result in extensive repair costs. More concerning is how it often gets close to being a total loss but juuust skates under so you get a rebuilt wreck.

My neighbor is a firefighter and has been on scene with accidents involving Tacoma’s. He said they hold up very well.
He was at the scene of a pretty bad one and the occupants were fine.

I did not have bumper armour however the impact was so soft I didn’t even spill my coffee nor did the air bags go off. The collision caused $30k CAD damage and had to be pushed off the highway. It was a write off.
The elk however got up and ran away. I thought for sure I’d be feeling some aches and pains the next day but nope. I felt fine.

    Hey look, we're brothers.

Anyway, I fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a utility pole head-on. Walked away with a sprained wrist and some pretty bad bruising on my shins and calves from the airbags. I'm alive though. It could have been worse.

55MPH T-boned an SUV going ~50 also. Walked away with only some bruises from my seatbelt. Sad day but my tacoma surely saved my life.06490881-B104-412A-ABA7-83FA91F9E32E.jpg845E7A15-4C7B-4DD8-8611-F1E1BDE9342A.jpg

IIRC someone here had a head on in their '18 at highway speeds that removed almost all the engine compartment. He walked away with minor injuries.

Wow. Looks like the crumple zone worked as engineered deflecting the force of impact away from the cab thus the occupants walked out with none to minor injuries. Impressive
