I have a 2015 4Runner and am contemplating putting a Magnuson supercharger on it. Just wondering if any supercharged 4Runner had driven a hybrid Tacoma?

I’m tempted by the Tacoma Limited Hybrid mainly bc the max torque at 1700 RPM which will outperform the supercharged 4Runner. However putting the supercharger on is still cheaper than getting a new Tacoma. Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a 4runner 2020 supercharged....and it goes. I am sure the new ones are ok but the reliability still to be proven. Time will tell.

You need to find someone local so you can get a ride in a 4R SC. From the numbers I've seen posted, the 4R goes from slow to merely adequate performance with the SC.

The Tacoma hybrid is going to have way more oomph down low than a 4R SC, and likely would be significantly quicker overall.

If you're already tempted, you've noticed the new Tacoma hybrid, I highly suggest you don't waste your money on a SC kit. With that temptation for a new Tacoma in your head, you may as well start saving up...

I was contemplating the same thing (except I have a 3rd gen Tacoma).

My supercharger gets installed on Tuesday.

The 4runner is a much better vehicle. It does everything better except haul stuff in a bed.

It was different generations - trying, not owning - and shopping/testing gen 4 Tacoma and new Land Cruiser.

IMO all very different animals. A gen 4 Tacoma is also a top safety pick prior pickups and SUVs did not achieve. Soon you can get the next gen 4Runner with so much common with the Tacoma. I decided against the new hybrids from how effective the non-hybrid is for getting work done.

It was gen 3 4Runner and different pickups, but from past experience know you better be doing upgrades for you vs thinking you'll get great resale value or buyer's appreciating the upgrades in same way.

My best advice is delay gratification and try lots of stuff.

Had a few 4Runners last one being a 17 TRD Pro. They are built like tanks with fantastic quality. As for off Road and comparing: The TrailHunter just has enormous amounts of low-end torque and at 1950RPM runs quite smooth at 80MPH. The 4 Wheel drive system is huge improvement over the T4R. Time will tell as I get more seat time in the Trailhunter-that said impressed so far.

as the video showed. the none hybrid taco has way more power than the 4runner. i have a hybrid but have never driven a 4th gen non hybrid. but if i was going to put bigger tires on any taco id want it to be the hybrid. any time you need power off the line or to pass anyone it dumps hybrid power on. if your buying a new truck and your already going to spend 45-49k why wouldn't you just get the engine with the most power for a little bit more?

Also consider that having a supercharger unit physically in the way can make simple maintenance like replacing spark plugs or brake lines etc more complicated too.

Adding larger tires and extra weight kinda kills the performance gains from the supercharger. Still better than stock and still fun but they're just not fast.

If your 4Runner has not been modified, you will likely enjoy the gains. Retune with OTT highly recommended. It'll add more power easily. I'd look into an 87mm pulley for more boost too. Then if you need more power after that, open up the headers and xhaust. You'll be making close to 400hp to the wheels.

They are not 0-60 racing machines but they will fly with ease on the freeway.

The 4runner is a better vehicle. Only get a tacoma if you need an open bed. Period.
