As per title. Anyone use Ceratec in in the 3.5 engine? I used in my other cars n/a and turbo with pretty good results.
The most noticeable was a much quieter engine. mpg gains were modest: around 0.2 - 0.3mpg gains. Reason I added was for reduced friction, aka wear and tear. Some rally guys used this stuff, and they had catastrophic break of oil pan, and apparently this stuff saved the engine
    Here are the specs: https://www.liqui-moly.com/en/ca/cera-tec-p000017.html#20002

Manufacturer claims the microfilm coating lasts up to 30k miles, meaning the next 2 oil changes you don't need to add to the oil.
As I said, i was very happy using it in my BMW's and I also noticed the oil consumption went dramatically down - BMW's are notorious for losing 1 qt of oil every 3k miles or so. Just curious if anyone in the Taco community is using it, and if he noticed engine noise reduction and maybe improved mpg?

I got 0.2-0.3 mpg gains city driving. In the thread you posted, that guy gained 1-3 mpg Hi-Way driving, which is pretty good. And that also answered my question. So I think I will continue Ceratec on my Taco.
    Thanks for your answer

No sweat. Happy it was helpful! I was thinking I had just read about this product so it was an easy post to find.
Fuel economy is suuuuper subjective and I’d personally take 1-3 with a grain of salt, but don’t really have a basis for that.
It’s an oil additive right? Do you just add yours with oil changes?

Strikes me that if this magic were real OEs would include it from the factory, as they seek every MPG possible.

Then have it mixed with their own branded oil to keep it 'refreshed'. Of course they'd double the price of their oil, but hey, easy money from the folk who think most OE branded items are the shnitz.

Maybe they could call it TRD oil. People dig TRD, although none of those labeled bits came from the TRD program.

um, hate to break it to you, but 2-3mpg on the highway, and 0.2-0.3mpg city is absolutely within the range of 'recalibrated butt dyno'. the infamous "fuel shark" also got similar 'gains', and that was just a blinky light in the cigarette lighter port.

so just drive nicer, and you'll get all the benefits without the wasted cost of purchasing anything additional.

Cera Tec is fantastic. I’ve been using it for 10 years or so in every vehicle I own. Better MPG is part of the deal but cold start protection is truly the best aspect. Up to 90% of engine wear comes from cold starts.

Cera Tec is NOT an oil additive. It uses the oil as a delivery system, but the purpose is for the ceramic based product is to bind to the metal and reduce friction. It takes about 500 miles to realize the full effects. I treat every 20k miles.

How much do you use? Been reading up on this and looking to add it on my next oil change. Does it factor into the total oil level, or is it okay to put it on top of the factory recommended 6.2qts?

I use 2 cans, technically it’s 1 can per 5 quarts but it does not hurt to have a little extra.

Im skeptical about an oil additive delivering more gas mileage. It's more related to tire weight and how you use the gas pedal. And keeping it under 65-70 on the highway.

How were you measuring the engine wear before and after using this product?

Check out the 19k reviews and try for yourself. One major obvious sign of protection is how quiet the valve train is on cold starts. This is especially notable for those in cold climates.

Inaccurate in some ways, it takes upwards of 500 miles for the project to bind. Though he did see notable results. The Amazon reviews are much more reliable source from actual user reviews. Seems like everyone who uses the product tends to rave about it, those that don’t keep doubting. Breakdown in logic in my opinion.
