People start towing and not knowing is what I fear. I didn't know it was behind me...Ya no f.ing s... I have been around those folks. Always take all the care you can when towing anything. Be careful and thoughtful as well.

I was surprised you got that trailer for that tow, as I mentioned before our local U-Haul wouldn't let me do the similar tow. Thay said it was because they had problems with people loading down both trucks and wouldn't accept the liability. I couldn't get the dolly either. The car hauler put me at the top end of the trucks limit and the dolly gave me room. Most U-Hauls are independent so you got lucky. I do believe these trucks are more capable than they get credit for.

I had a 2000 5.0 Explorer and they wouldn't rent my anything at all because of the Firestone tire issue on earlier models. My car didn't even have Firestones on it... but they would let a Mercury Mountaineer (same truck) rent no problem.

As @ndoldman59 said most UHauls are independent/franchise I think. In trying to call some locally to arrange my own tow dolly reservation I got varied answers and help. One was answered by I am older woman who had to keep asking her husband the answer to my questions. Pretty sure she was at home. Then I called another UHaul location and the guy was rude/flat and said “I can’t help you. Order online you’ll get a better price”

So I did… no problems and able to wave inspection from UHaul.

Not for sale. Kids moving and not enough drivers to drive that far that fast. Yeah I know ...................

Thank you for replies. I would prefer the trailer to the dollie for safety, but that trailer is 2,210 lbs + Corolla = 4,825 lbs
My biggest concern would be downhill.

I have towed very heavy utility trailers with this truck short distance. My rig has 4.88 and a performance tune so not concerned there other than guzzling gas lol.

Don't need to worry about that if the E-Brake doesn't work ...

Yup used them plenty of times to tow running and non-running vehicles, never had a problem and neither will you.

Personally I would much rather take 101 towing a car with the Taco. The grapevine is NO JOKE. Also the coast route is quite a bit cooler too.

little need to spin it harder / faster

I think these trailers have surge brakes as well. Something to be aware of. If you tow alot of heavy rigs your used to brake controller braking. Bit different with surge system

Truth be told I was praying because my son was in a pinch. I know that may be out dated, but, sometimes it works.

I’ll be putting together a thread in the next week to put my thoughts down and share if anyone has interest.

Wife and I arrived yesterday evening in ID, completing a 1700 mile trip. Had a couch in the bed (2 ft over bed length, tailgate down with bed extender and it still stuck out about a foot…) and an UHaul tow dolly with the wife’s 06 4 dr accord. The accord was stuffed with “stuff.” And the taco had wife, me, dog, cat.

Looking forward to posting up all my thoughts as best I can once we get more situated. Spoiler: these trucks can handle it. Really really impressed.

Towed my wife's prius c from VA to MT in January through a winter storm. Make sure the car on the dolly is square/straight and you will be fine.

I’ll be towing a 49 dodge pilot house 400 miles soon…trailer is 1400lbs and truck is 3500…I use my Tacoma as a farm truck…it hauls all our hay and cows all across the country. As long as it’s maintained and you’re smart it’s usually a non issue.

Had a 2500 and sold it, hardly used.
