Hey TW Family! Tryna decide what tires to run on my taco. I am looking at the Cooper Discoverer at3 in 275/70r17. Couldn't find to many pics of these on peoples tacos, figured I'd see if people could throw post some up! Thanks!

I had them on my former 2011 Sport and ended up putting Michelin AT2s on because I just couldn't get the Cooper's to balance. Maybe my issues were isolated because I think Cooper makes great tires but I had to take them off. I had Cooper baking Toyota and Toyota blaring Cooper. Long story.

I will say they were much more aggressive than the Michelins but just didn't work out for me. Thye also look more aggressive in person than in pics. I had zero issues with the Michelin tires but like a more aggressive tire. I'm looking now for a good 265/65/16 for my OR. Good luck to you, I am sure some others will chime in soon with pics.

Thanks for the reply! I originally wanted to do a 285/70/17 but can pretty much only find E rated tires, and as a daily I don't want to sacrifice the mpg and power, plus the added trimming. Sucks you had bad luck with the cooper's, Ik people run them so I have to believe it is an isolated incident but you never know. Love the quicksand color on your 17! Good Luck with it man!

Thanks, man! I love this truck. Geez, I have never washed a truck so much in my life because I just want to. LOL.

I think it was an isolated incident for sure with the Coopers but I would research it a bit just to be sure. On my second gen I was in a p-ing contest with Toyota because of the vibration that so many people experienced. Toyota insisted that I change tires and gave me a brand new set of Michelins. I will say that Michelin is the only tire I know that is made in a single piece mold. Other tires are made from either two to several pieces put together. In general the Michelins are much more round. My truck drove much better with them BUT they just didn't have the tread and the look I wanted.

I am in the same boat as you. My truck first and foremost is a daily driver and I will not put an E rated tire on it when I don't need it. In my neck of the woods I have sticky clay and soft mud to contend with. No rock climbing for me so I don't need the heavier sidewalls. I would not hesitate to slap the Coopers on if that was what I was looking for. You may also want to check out the Falken ATW as it is similar in tread but with a better looking sidewall. I have the stock Goodyear Wrangler Adventure with Kevlar and love this tire but I just want a little more tread. The Duratrac is available in a c rated tire and it is soft enough where it will ride similar if not almost the same as most p rated tires. If you opt for an LT I would stick around the c and d ratings but they are few and far between.

Im in NY so its more rocky but i wouldn't define it as rock crawling, nothing that I would need an E rated tire for. I was planning on doing the Duratracs in 285/70r17 because there the only D rated tire I can find in that size with an aggressive tread pattern but the more I thought about it the more a 275/70r17 makes more sense, its slightly smaller in diameter and width, and lighter which will help as a daily. I actually have coopers on my truck right now, came factory, gone through 2 NY winters with them and no problems. Im probably gonna end up with the coopers because the only other tire I can find in that size that has an aggressive tread pattern is a BFG KO2 which i would get but its a load E so that would defeat the whole purpose.

Wow, in NY the Duratrac would be great because it is really a great snow tire (or so I have heard). I am in Central Alabama so we don't have any snow to worry with. The biggest thing I miss about living in Virginia and Maryland was the snow! You can get that Duratrac in a C rated tire which is going to be close to the P. If you opt for Coopers you can likely get the P rated tire. Once you got to an LT tire with Cooper you are stuck with an E rated tire. I emailed back and forth with them for days a week or two ago and was left with the AT3 only as an option for the size I wanted so I'm looking at GY or General.

Also, about the size...go with what works best for you. I want something to function well first and then look good. It is nice to have them both but whatever size gives you what you want and is the best bang for the buck is what you need to go with.

Sween224, I created a new thread in the 3rd gen forum and asked for help for both of our tire sizes. I mentioned you name and tire size so maybe we will get some good advice back. Honestly, in a C or even D rated tire I'm not sure we are going to find much but maybe we will get some good advice back. That Toyo is. It too far off from the Cooper AT3 and has a better looking sidewall but I still want a little more, maybe a hybrid tire.

Thanks man! I was looking at the toyo open country at2 b/c if i went to a 285/70/17 its a load E but only weights 50 pounds, but its still a load E so I'm still shying away from it. Im leaning toward the cooper at3 in 275/70/17, seems to fit my needs best but I still want more information lol

No problem, my friend. Hey. Come on over to the 3rd gen forum and join the fun. Comments are coming in but we haven't added too many options. I'm afraid we knew that all along. I would. To overlook that Duratrac because it's tough to beat in the snow.

If i could get the Duratrac in 275/70/17 I would, my concern with the 285/70/17 duratrac is its weight. And winter is over now lol

I may be mistaken but I thought that was a lighter tire? I know the Generals are heavy. If you are thinking AT3, it would be hard for me to sway you away because I liked that tire absent the balancing issues.

Definitely and please keep me in the loop as well. Two heads are better than one. I honestly think we are both in the "one size up" category of a very popular truck and the options are just not good. All these tire manufacturers and the options are not good. I have emailed Cooper (many times) and think I may also email some others and let them know there are many others that would buy their tires if they weren't just throwing out E to all of us...
