Anyone run the Air Compressor off of the Tailgate Power Outlet....
I don't see why it wouldn't work unless it draws too much power when the compressor is running?

You're probably better off just using a 12V compressor hooked up to the battery.

The 110 outlet is limited to about 400 watts; so its good for aux lights and charging phones etc.

400 watts is a little over 1/2 of a horsepower. It better be a small air compressor.

I couldn’t stand to watch that video past the 2 min mark.

@thekidkaiser every electrical device should have a label telling you what the current draw is at 110VAC. You can figure if the outlet will power it by multiplying the current and voltage. If the compressor is rated to 5Amps and the outlet is capable of 120VAC then 120Vx5AMPS=600Watts. Since you know the power rating and voltage of the outlet.

    400Watts/120Vac=3.33333amps
    100Watts/120Vac=.833333amps

Keep it under 3.3 amps at 400 watts and you should be good. Keep it under .83amps at 100W and you should be good.

Sorry I'm bad with maths. I'm the type of person that just keeps plugging things in until that next thing won't run.

I'm not electrically minded at all, so really appreciate the education here. Simple math but not so simple when it might blow something

Hands down the best bang for your buck 12v compressor you can get is the viair 88p. Doesn't break the bank, and has a decent duty cycle and output. Perfect for if you have 33s and aren't constantly needing to air back up, i.e. more than once a month. At that point I'd spring for a more expensive compressor.

threw the circuit breaker on the compressor because the power wasn't keeping up with demand.

I found that compressor works well if I sit it in the floor of the truck with cold ac blowing on it while the compressor is running. Your want the truck running while the compressor is working too.

Yeah the compressor part of it gets hot AF. When I used to use mine I would pick it up by the hose/power cable and toss it in the bed to cool off.

Except, when it is running the outlet is load limited to 100W instead of 400W.

The compressor him and I are discussing is a 12v one that clips directly to the battery.
