My lady is in the market for new tires for her JK Rubicon. We picked up a set of 16” wheels anticipating putting on a set of 285/75r16 Wildpeak ATs. However, after her 2.5” lift turned out to be more like 3”, she now wants to go a little bigger on tires to fill the gap a bit better. The option she is currently leaning toward is getting a set of 285/75r17s (33.9” OD for wildpeaks) and run them on the stock wheels. We are having a really hard time finding an equivalent 16” tire so I figured I’d reach out here and see if anyone has found anything before we sell the wheels she already bought (used, for cheap) and buy 17” tires.

    thanks!

Unfortunately there's a bit of a gap there. 295/75R16 is the only size in between. That comes out at about 33.3". Otherwise you have to jump to 315/75/16 which is ~34.6".

    yup 285/75R17s are the way to get a 34 on a 16. I fought with the same issue on 16s and couldn't find a solution. You can either get a 285/75R16 or a 305/75R16 which is basically a 33x10.50 and a 33x12.50.

Yeah, I ran 285/75/16 wildpeak ATs on my XTerra and was in love with them. Perfect size for recreational wheeling and heavy commuting miles.
She’s in a position where 33’s 285/75r16 or 285/70r17) would look too small, and she has the clearance and axles (Dana 44’s with lockers and 4.10’s) for 35’s but covers a bunch of commuting miles, so she’s concerned with the fuel economy on 35’s. So going shooting the gap with a 34 (285/75r17) would be ideal. BUT running the new wheels she bought means finding a 34 for 16” wheels which we have come up goose eggs on thus far. Worst case she runs the stock wheels with 34/17’s
