I'm getting an engine for my 2006 prerunner out of a 2007 4WD FJ. Guy is willing to sell tge whole drivetrain. Any chance the front diff. And shafts etc will fit on a Tacoma?

    Thanks guys!

I Neg. a good deal so just bought the complete engine (ecu included in case I need it), auto trans. and tranfer case. If I end up not using the trans and t-case, I'm sure someone I know will. Front of drivetrain I still need some input???

Gear ratio is 3.73 for all V6 engines en 4Runner, Tacoma and FJ cruiser.

Thanks! I guess back to negotiate tomorrow :)

To be clear, I am still a Pre-Runner fan, but for the price, this may be a fun project. I can always go back, hehehehehe!

So, if you can also get the spindles, hubs, half shafts, diff, and driveshafts, you hit the mother lode. You could have a 4wd in a weekend. Probably have to have some driveshaft work done.

Trans crossmember is different on prerunners. Not quite that easy of a swap.

It is different but it's still pretty easy.

Yes, If you are a fabricator like you are. Just need a make and weld on a custom plate. Just trying to give a heads up that it's not a simple bolt on swap.

True statements. I assume if he's going to tackle swapping the entire drive train, that modifying the cross member probably isn't a huge issue for him. Maybe that's a bad assumption.

Also, when you are done with your SAS, come do mine. I have no idea where to start. :D

Anybody find it odd that the PreRunner frame is somehow slightly different than the 4wd frame? This seems like a waste of money to produce different frames for an identical truck minus the front drivetrain and TC.

It's the frame that's slightly different, right?

The frame is the same, it's just the crossmember that's different. The 4x4 crossmember would just have an added section to support the tcase if I had to guess, I've never looked at a prerunner frame to see what the difference is though.

I remember reading a conversion thread where a 4wd crossmember was used and it still didn't line up properly.

If it's just the crossmember than it would be as easy as using the crossmember from a 4wd truck.

No, the frame is different. The mounts for the cross member hang lower on the 4x4. Most ppl mod the cross member itself cause it's easier than modifying the frame. Why they did this, I don't know. I also find it odd that the transmissions are different. They could have easily made due with only the 4x4 version and changed the tail piece. Instead the output shaft is different too. It's odd.

Yeah, the prerunner crossmember doesn't hang down as low and is a little to the rear. The nice thing is youll have a little more clearance than a 4x4 frame. This is what my buddy Mike did. But he's also a machinist and a welder so...

 it's pretty much done. Just gotta button up a few more things. Just make sure you have everything before you start chopping up your truck. I cut off my IFS way too early and took way too long waiting on the right parts. It's been over a year doing everything myself with help from some friends all in my garage.

SASed mall crawler yo! Still haven't setup the hydro bumps. Can't wheel it yet...
