Hey guys. Was wondering if anyone had any insight or experience on how to flash the firmware of Toyotas Entune system (2012-present) to add custom apps. I want to add navigation as Toyota wanted thousands more for it. I'm pretty sure it is capable and has a connection to GPS, but it lacks the software. Imagine how cool it would be to run an android based custom firmware on the tacos head unit...all the customization options and apps!! We need to make this happen

It's a closed system, not open source. So highly unlikely you can do it. But if you can figure it out, let us know , would be pretty awesome.

Lol it may be closed system, but so was apple's iOS. I'm sure there's a way but I'm not into programming. I know they are able to be updated via the USB port.

Or rly? If I was, I wouldn't be asking forums for help, now would I? Closed systems can be broken is my point. There's always a way

Hmm. Interesting. It's definitely a start. Just not sure as to what Toyota touch and go is exactly. Thanks for the find!

Wouldn't the iGo software be proof that it can be and has been flashed? It's running on the factory stereo. iGo charges for their software (very reasonable), but I have not seen open/shared knowledge on how to flash/root entune. It's possible it's out there, I have not looked very hard for it. Entune is not as popular as iOS. So the number of people who would be motivated to put hundreds or thousands of hours into writing/modifying open source entune software would be very small. Even once you know how to modify the factory installed software, you'd still have to create software to add/replace whats there.

I wager that Mike's point was not that it could not be done. But that a programmer would not make a comment like:

Because a programmer would know that writing software for an undocumented and unsupported platform of this kind would take hundreds or thousands of man hours. And when it comes to spending that much time writing code. A programmer does not lol. :D
