I have a leer 100XL I bought used and does not have roof rack tracks but in the interior under the carpet it looks like the center section of the roof is thicker and reinforced. Anyone ever install roof rack tracks on their topper that didn’t originally come with them? Just trying to figure out the logistics and if it’s worth my time.

My tracks came with the tracks installed already on my 100XL. I've heard they're kind of a pain to put on yourself, maybe see if a dealer can install them...possibly give you a warranty if they install them. If you decide to install them yourself and need any measurements let me know and I can take some and send you some info.

It’s not too difficult, a helper would benefit in the install. And make sure you use some type of water sealant.

The center section of the roof has a cardboard honeycomb sandwiched between the upper and lower layers of fiberglass. You want to install your roof tracks outboard of that. Ideally, the tracks should be 42" apart, center to center (for example, if you want to install a Prinsu rack). Tape the tracks to the topper, drill the holes for the bolts, and fill the holes with plenty of silicone sealant. Have a helper hold the nuts on the inside of the topper as you insert the bolts from above. There are caps that snap over the nuts for a finished look.

Get either the Yakima or Thule tracks as they are made with one edge taller than the other so they sit level on your curved rack. As mentioned mount them 42" apart, easiest way is to find the centerline of your rack and measure out from there. You should be able to buy the correct tracks from any truck cap/topper dealer.

Get Rhino racks heavier duty and less expensive. I have owned Thule and Yakima. Rhino is much better.

Does anyone who only has a rack installed on their topper notice a lot of wind noise on the interstate with it? On my second gen I had a prinsu roof rack and even with the wind front splitter it made a lot of noise on the interstate. Was hoping with it that far back just on the topper it wouldn’t be so bad but haven’t heard from anyone yet about it.

You are always going to have more wind noise when installing aftermarket.

I installed my rack a couple months ago (after running my topper with tracks only for 4 months) and if there’s any difference at all in wind noise, it’s very minimal. I don’t have a wind guard either BTW. I have round bars on my 4Runner and they are a little louder on the highway than the aero bars or whatever they’re called.

I haven’t noticed any real significant increase in noise. Could be from the years of working around airplanes and various other loud noises though. I feel like the Tacoma stock has a fair amount of road noise as it is…so that could be why I don’t feel like it increased a bunch.

I have a Prinsu rack on my topper (see my avatar). I don't notice noise. It may be there, but it's too far back for me to hear it. A rack on the cab would be different.
