As it was explained to me, you have to install the crossover before the front output splits into the tweeter and front 6X9 connections. Was told this may be behind the kick panels. Has anyone done this?

Speaker wire from head unit or amp goes into the crossover. Then one set goes out into front 6x9’s and one set goes out to tweeters. I placed mine behind kickpanesl no issues but i ran it from amp so didnt use factory wiring. The factory wiring would need to be tapped at the plugs behind the kickpanel. Its a bit more complicated without an amp

Not gonna use an amp for now, see how it goes. Did you have to remove the head unit, or were you able to access the wire behind the kick panel? And is it difficult to remove either the head unit or the panel?

You can also choose to run Subaru Tweeters that are a huge upgrade and plug and play.

When I did a system on a clients car, The factory “tweeter” connection has the 6x9 wiring and output from the radio on it, I did all my connections up there and mounted the crossover above the kick panels on both sides. I’ll be doing the same on mine when I do my system this year

Here is my super quick sketch to show what I mean haha on the right is the head unit, middle is the dash “tweeter” and left is the 6x9 door speaker
    ACBF4106-E266-4E9C-A66A-911718FA935A.jpg

You can take out the plug at the tweeter and Use it for the midbass driver and the input to the cross over from the head unit, then simply add the tweeter wires to the crossover.

So it sounds like the wires from the head unit split AFTER the tweeter connection? So I can simply take the wires off the factory tweeters, install the crossover...then connect the tweeters and 6X9's from the crossover output? Great schematic BTW....!

Correct! the factory tweeter essentially also acts like a (passive) crossover in that any freq. that is below a certain level goes past it to the 6x9. Haha thank you! Very simple but gets the point across haha

I used ********* tweeter wires. Installed my new JBL 6x9 component speakers. 6x9 in the door and tweeters up on dash using ********* tweeter speaker adapters.

I did a 6.5” Hertz ESK165.5 component system on this one a couple years ago (May 2016). We make all of our speaker adapters (back then we used MDF but we’re switching to ABS plastic now for durability).

In case anyone is here still..I installed new speakers last week in my stock, non JBL 2010 Tacoma, but did not install the crossovers that came with the tweeters.. It sounds fine, but what risks am I running? The tweeters are
    Kicker 46CST204..
    Thanks in advance.

blowing the tweeters is the risk. tweeters aren't designed for bass, the crossovers lower the bass so the tweeters last longer when they don't have to produce frequencies they can't play.

I guess my question is this then..With the stock radio, not using much bass, what are the odds of ruining the tweeters?

Over time high. The OEM tweeters have a means to clip unwanted frequencies (by using a coil / capacitor), that coil / capacitor is in the crossover of the aftermarket speakers that you didn’t install. You will also be “muddying” the sound as the tweeters (and woofers) will both now be trying to put out frequencies they are not designed to produce.

Interesting... So where do I wire in the crossover? Just before the tweeter? Can't wait to disassemble the doors again..
