want a little more sound out of my exhaust.and dont need to go the full cat back since the borlas have 2.5 inch pipes --- same as stock albeit with less bends... cant find any real info on comparing these two mufflers so thought i would ask. rather spend about 100 bucks for a muffler with same diameter piping than 600 plus on a full system.

specifically trying to see if any of these two mufflers drone -- not interested in magnaflow or flowmasters...

    thanks!

I have about had them all and in my experience I have found the Borla to be the only exhaust to not produce cab drone. I currently have the Borla S Type.

thanks for that info. yeah i think the s type would be a good full cat system..but it uses the same size piping as the stock which is why i am thinking of just removing the stock OR muffler and replacing it with a borla pro xs muffler. is your muffler 14 inches long or 19? thanks again for your input

The Pro XS is a very free flowing muffler, I'd go with the 19".
It'll produce a slightly more mellow sound with little to no performance degradation over the 14" version.

I personally have owned a Borla ProXS muffler set before. They are unusually quiet. Like so quiet that it almost is pointless going with them. They made my LS2 V8 sound like a Honda quiet. I pulled them off and went with Corsa DB series in very short order at the time.

With saying that, 14" will be louder. 19" will be quieter. Since Borla inherently does not produce drone, all you have to do is decide if you want if you want it louder or quieter.

Borla is NOT the only brand which does not drone though. Just putting that out there.

thanks for your info. what other brands would you consider? and do they sound halfway decent? i kind of like the TRD Perf sound -- but not gonna shell out 650 bucks for a sound. i am good with 100-150 bucks however

Well you have a 3rd gen so I am in no position to give you proper recommendations with good conscience as I have a 2nd gen and the 4.0 has a different overall running sound over the 3.5L. I actually just took this video recently of my Black Widow exhaust on my own truck just to give a general idea of what it sounds like. There is no drone with the muffler and it's a Venom 250 series. It gives the exhaust a nice growl when giving it some juice.

I don't think you would be happy with an Aero Turbine 2525XL as I used to have it and it droned even though it was resonated.

Depending on what you want you may have to do some experimenting and I say that because exhaust is sort of an experimentation game as it is.

The TRD catback is always a good possibility as it is designed to give the exhaust a nice growl.

Take a listen to mine and see what you think.

I realize this is just a Forum but you should try to find the SHIFT key. You are either really old or just a kid that only texts. It's annoying.

Lol. Ok gramps. By the way, you do not need to capitalize the word forum. Please only capitalize it when referencing a specific forum such as the Tacoma World Forum. Please refrain from being annoying. Thank you sir.

What made you decide to exit the pipe there? Originality? Just kind of a bold move.
