Touch to lock is really hard to activate. It will work eventually but takes a bit of pushing and rubbing to get it to lock. Unlock feature works OK. 2019 Taco w/push to start.

On 2019, are you able to adjust the sensitivity?
I own a 2016. No issues. Did you know there is a touch pad on the underside as well?

There is another sensor on the bottom of the driver’s handle. Try that one. If it works, top sensor likely faulty. No problems on mine.

If your keys are in your pocket when you have problems, make sure your cell phone isn’t in the same pocket. I’ve noticed mine won’t work when that’s the case.

My key is always in my right pocket. The only time I ever have issues is when I forget to lock and start walking away then lean and reach out with my left hand to try to lock. Figure that's on me, key is too far away at that point.

I think your correct, mine works fine, but the key needs to be close.... By design I suppose

Mine has trouble when it's up against my phone in my pocket. If I move it away, there is no issue at all. I usually try to keep my phone and key in different pockets.

Thanks to all who suggested having phone in a different pocket, I'll try that! And thanks to others who suggested using the sensor on the underside of the handle, didn't know there was one there!!

I also read in another thread that using two fingers (pointer and middle) help ensure that the doors will lock.

Try "pinching" the lock sensors. I figure there's since there is a mark on the top and the bottom, maybe thats how it was intended to be used. Works everytime for me.

Mine works one finger on the top...my Lexus has the same basic design handle and it works the same way.

My '17 unlocks only if I grasp the entire handle (just as if I were opening an unlocked door).

I was told by the salesperson to pinch the marks on the forward edge of the door handle between a thumb and finger to unlock the door, but that rarely worked properly. It unlocks every time now when I grab the handle with my hand.

So far, it's not mattered which pocket the keys are in (and FWIW, I never have the keys and phone in the same pocket).

Also, I did the "hold both lock and unlock buttons down for 5 seconds" to reprogram the system to unlock all 4 doors when I grab the driver door handle.

only when wearing gloves. Try to get in the habit of bringing your hand up to sensor not to fast and letting it pick up the signal. It doesn't see quick approaches I've noticed.

I have a 2017 with the a second door handle and wired in on the passengers side... If i am standing next to my truck someone else on the other side of the truck can unlock the passenger door without having the keys in there pocket so the range is pretty good.

The handles are universal so they have a lock sensor on the top and the bottom where the 2 lines are. If it isn't responding to a simple touch on the lines then maybe pop by the dealership and see what they have to say.

if you are close enough to lean and touch you are close enough for the fob to register. suggest you get new battery in fob.

I'm not concerned or complaining about about function, simply stating my observation as a suggestion to the OP of a possible scenario that they may be encountering.

I've had several PTS vehicles and they all behaved the same if I was too far away and leaning to hit the lock sensor. I'm all good, I know when I'm the problem and not the equipment :)

Your salesperson gave you bad info. The sensors at the marks on the forward edge of the door handle LOCK the door. The sensor on the back of the handle UNLOCK the door.
