Anyone ever used a wireless/remote battery disconnect switch as an anti-theft device?

Instead of a mechanical on/off switch mounted to a battery terminal, devices like this can disconnect/reconnect the battery via push-button on a key fob. Much more convenient, and secure, than a mechanical switch which needs to be accessed by opening and closing the hood.

I know it’s not as good as other anti-theft systems, but it appears installation would be minimally intrusive. I do not like the idea of messing with my truck’s wiring.

Any thoughts on this, and this unit in particular?

Few thoughts. Setting up the head unit each time would be inconvenient. But probably more important, resetting your ECU each time means that you're always going to be running on the pre-programmed map and that your ECU will never complete it's self-tests. It's probably not a good idea. A switch wired to the fuel pump is plenty sufficient.

Besides what's posted above I doubt the disconnect could handle starting current being drawn through it too many times before it lets out it's magic smoke.

    • Might be good to install on the hot wire going to the starter. That way you done loose any setting on the radio.

Just find the hot wire going to your fuel pump relay and put a switch on that. Done

Thanks for the info. I had anticipated losing my head unit’s presets, but didn’t think of the ECU having to constantly reset itself.
