Unless I am missing something, this is to simply help you step up into the bed? And at the bargain price of almost $500 bones? My initial thoughts are no freaking way man!

The OEM bed step is $182 from BAM, does the same thing and stows away nicely underneath the truck when not needed. The one you are looking at consumes your entire tailgate when stowed. And it says it's made of steel so that would make your tailgate weigh a ton. Again, hard pass here

yes I am in debate of getting the BAM step but I’m just jealous of GM and Ford having the tailgate ladder in the front and it being wide too lol.

Is the BAM step pretty strong when it comes to wheeling? Heard people take it off when they wheel

The OEM bed step is for old guys with bad knees that don't "wheel" (like me).

I go wheeling pretty often not hard core trails or anything but I bought the knock off Amazon version of the OEM step and it’s held up pretty good so far and it’s been used many times and find no difference from the OEM one at all ( a friend of mine had one and I’ve compared loads and quality)

@msgs350 has an OEM step and doesn't shy away from obstacles. I wouldn't take it into a rock garden, but for 99% of what blokes on TW do, it's perfectly satisfactory.

OP, be warned, that tailgate version will render your soft open tailgate inop.

    Not worth the cost/effort IMO.

Rather go with the extended height step system...

Nope! OSHA only approves milk crates. Above that height you need a railing with a kick plate.
