I'm trying to get rid of my 2013 , anyone ever check Carmax on what they offer ?

I figured I'd ask before I wasted my time driving up there .

    Thanks

For older cars they lowball like crazy, but for a brand new car, you might as well go get an offer

I got my truck in 2011 with 10k on the odo from carmax for under blue book and nada so I assume you won't get a great offer selling to them.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
In the end they are still a dealer and need to make a profit. It won't hurt to get a offer but don't be surprised when it's low. Might be a little better if you are also trying to buy a car from them though.

I took my 2012 DCSB TRD offroad with 20,000 miles on it and they offered me $27,000 for it. They said if I was going to be trading it they would give me a another $1000 for it. I took it to the local Toyota dealership and they offered me $28,500 for it.

Yup... My local Toyota dealer offered up $20,000 just to buy it from me. I just posted it on Craigslist for $23,995. If it sells, good.. If not, I'll just keep her. Nothing wrong with it, I'm just ready to get another old cheap Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Your not gonna get what you think it's worth but in you need to sell it they make it pretty painless! I have done it a couple times.

I actually used their offer as a starting point for my negotiations with other dealers for trade in on my Highlander (so I can get back into a Tacoma). Because they will buy your car for that # even if you don't buy from them. So a dealer wanting to make a sale, should be able to offer as much if not more than what CarMax will.

I may be the anomaly, but I have been happy with Carmax. I bought my 08 (new) Tundra SR5 DC 4x4 with no trade for under 32000 OTD. Great deal in my opinion. I just traded my 99 taco SR5 manual 4 cylinder with a poor body condition, rusted frame (hole in it), smoked in etc. Paid 21000, got 5500 for it and walked out with a 13 4x4 TRD sport for 28058 without trade. The nice thing is I never spent more than 2.5 hrs at the dealership on both vehicles. Worked for me!

So you just took the truck to a local dealer and they purchased it without you purchasing a vehicle from them ?

In 2000, I sold them a 1995 Grand Cherokee. The process was great. What they did was use Kelly Blue Book, and the lowest condition and price, which is essentially wholesale. At the time it was what I needed.

You have a 2013... go sell it to a toyota dealership. You will get more there because they can certify it unless it has a dirty carfax

Dealerships call this a buyback. it is always best to sell a car to the dealership you bought it from or at least one that sells the same make. They can usually certify it and ask for more money because it was bought and serviced there. Customers assume that the dealership knows this car so its a good selling point.

Best route to take to get the best offer (if you are in no hurry) is to sell it privately through CL. You will get a hit with any dealership, CarMax or not. CarMax will give you a written offer good for a week and you can use that as a reference point for other dealers.

I have a Car Max less than 3 miles from the house. This one low balled me on my vehicle and I could buy a brand new vehicle for a little more money with more features.

Also if they do buy your vehicle there is a hidden charge for doing that as well; which they do not mention on their front end offer.

My advice is to turn your head and spit them out...
