    G'day mate, been a number of folks you done fit a tray on a Gen2. There's an importer of Aussie trays on the west coast a bit pricey, there's also plenty of do it yourself options that members have done on here.

    I've considered it but ultimately decided against it due to weight, don't need a new project, expense, reduced security, and it will kill what last little bit of fuel economy I have by ruining all aerodynamics.

    They don't look too bad even with just a home made flat deck and headache rack but I don't think it's worth it unless you've just absolutely trashed your stock box off road and never use a camber shell and haul really often.

    Googling "2nd gen Tacoma (tray) and/or (flat bed" should get you some visual ideas.

    No my box is ok just my lights, I’m just curious to see pictures of one with a flat deck, I’m from the for North and I haul my snowmobile at times in my truck and the box is a bit small for a Polaris switchback assault 600

    Not a second gen, but it is a double cab we did for Bison Overland Campers. This is a 7ft long flatbed.

    There's a range of flatbeds available, we build these up here in Canada specifically for the Toyota market!

    You're not wrong!

    I played with cheap products and by the time we were done, you didn't save any money. The cheaper ones on the market require a lot more DIY as where we took all that into account and designed a package that is all plug and play and you're done within a day; removing the old box and installing the new flatbed without any additional trips to hardware store for missing hardware. Same goes for wiring, no cutting and splicing, true plug and play.

    Here's a universal one dressed up with a rear tail board, fenders and tool boxes;

    Here's our production model. Cleaner. Sleeker and much easier to change and add accessories;

    RSI is making a 3rd gen flatbed but not sure if they will make a 2nd gen one. Be interested to see the mounting difference between the two generations. Attached is their flat bed with their camper shell mounted to it.

    In reality how does this actually provide any advantage over the stock bed with a canopy?

    No bed wall cavity so you get that space to use.

    Full use side to side of storage. Extra storage down in the corners. The camper shell can be removed to use the flat bed. Not to mention all the accessories that could be mounted to the camper shell. The rear has a drawer system that comes out.

    Thanks @RedDemolisher for tagging the flatbed thread. So many versions for different purposes.

    mines more of a contractor bed but it hangs…..lots of work and messing around to make it work.
