Out of state dealership replaced the windshield before I bought the truck and installed incorrectly. I didn't notice water was leaking into the cabin until I could smell the mold/mildew a month later and 2000 miles away from where I purchased it.

Insurance covered the windshield but my local dealership is quoting me $5000 for carpet removal and carpet pad replacement to address the mold. It looks like most of the cost is labor.

Has anyone done this themselves on a gen3?

    Thanks.

Why isn't your insurance covering the carpet replacement?

I know some have removed the entire interior for sound deadening. Pull the seats, center console, carpet last.

They should but I'm still waiting on that process. I was just wondering if it's a relatively easy thing to do.
The windshield was a quick and easy process (Free and seamless process in my state)

If you're good at taking things apart and putting them back together it's relatively easy. Time consuming though.

If you're going to DIY the carpet and pad replacement, distilled white vinegar is good for mold.

The leak was isolated to pooling on the passenger side. If I do this myself I was thinking remove the seat but hopefully I can leave the console untouched and just peal back the carpet and cut out the padding.

Thanks, I was thinking also hydrogen peroxide only bc it's odorless compared to vinegar.

Toyota was paying to have carpets cleaned when the leaking third brake light TSB was issued. You could probably clean the carpet, let it dry and reinstall if it's not too bad.

Takes maybe an hour to pull the seats and center console to remove the carpet and foam underpad. Half the trucks in my off-road club have been swamped. Afterwards, usually folks just install waterproof adhesive insulation (Noico, Dynamat, etc.) in lieu of the foam. You can wash the carpet and hang it dry on a clothesline.

I think it depends on the amount of mold. If spot cleaning, vinegar is a good option. To clean the entire floor, hydrogen peroxide will be a better solution. One thing I can say is to toss the padding and replace with new, clean the carpet really good when it's out of the truck. Let it sit and check it (smell) the next day or a couple days later.

It's really not that hard to take out. Maybe an hour or 2. It's also a good chance to really clean underneath the seats and such. I usually just take it to the carwash and use the foaming brush and scrub it down. Pressure wash clean and let it hang dry. The hanging is super important. The factory sound deadening is very fluffy and will never dry right so it'd be good to replace it. I like KIlMAT. $1 a ft is pretty good. Im sure a yt video will make it easy peasy.

i don't know how much new carpet costs, but getting mold out of the old carpet - and being sure you got the mold out of it the first time before reinstalling - that could be a task.

i wouldn't entertain for a moment the idea of trying to salvage the padding.

Yeah, obviously if it's complete blue cheese just replace it.

if insurance covered the original job, it really shouldn't matter-- their job caused the problem, the repair to fix the problem should be theirs as well.

i've got no problem pulling my interior if i screw something up, but not for others failures.

Insurance covered windshield replacement bc Mass requires windshields be covered for free. Botched job was done at a dealership in Texas (I drove it to MA), no insurance involved. That dealership ghosted me and forced me to go through insurance. Insurance covered it ezpz but wanted an official diagnosis from a shop (in MA). That’s when they also noticed the mold.

I don't think you'll have an issue getting insurance to cover the repairs.

This is super easy to do in your driveway using basic hand tools.
