 Looking at the silver/chrome space we have on our tacomas, next to the cup holders, next to the nav unit, hell probably the steering wheel silver as well.

The xsp version has the carbon fiber look to it, rather have it all black, has anyone changed this on their truck? Looking for ideas and pics :D

I dipped my cup holders. It got pretty chewed up after a few months though so I peeled it off and I'm too lazy to redo it lol.

save yourself the time and money. plasti dip is just a waste, it peels at the sight of anything with a corner or edge. Commit and use paint.

Am i the only one who thinks plasti dip is a dumb fad?

Yes. I have the overhead console and gauge trim derped. If you lay it down thick it will last a good long time. I had my cup holder console derped also, lasted well over a year and a half. I just recently went to paint there.

Yep, I used it to replicate a carbon fiber finish.

What's involved in this ... aside from removing the head unit?

No. The only thing it has going for it is for paint ideas, so you don't spray your whole truck flat black with paint and then hate it. I had it on my wheels and it looked fine, but I wish I never did it.

I +3 this. Only thing I have used it for is my front door badges since I didn't want to remove and reapply them. Plasti-dip holds up decent but otherwise I don't see a point in using it on anything that gets good/potential contact.

If it was me I'd remove interior parts and commit to pain rather than plastidip. Just my luck I'd put them back in place and knick something:mad:

I think half the people that bash Plasti-Dip have never used it. Obviously it isn't ideal for everything like cup holders, etc., but it's not "a complete waste"

I have done a lot with plastidip, I think it's great. It's not for everyone, if you spend more time going down trails and over rocks then pavement, then obviously you're gonna scratch it up. If you prep like crazy and lay enough coats on, it'll last a good while. People just like to bash everything that's easy :roll eyes:

OP: I haven't dipped any of the interior parts, but I've thought about it.

It's definitely convenient for badges and as long as it lasts is not a bad deal!

I think it's nuts when people dip entire vehicles.

I'd like to try the carbon fiber method with real paint. Just uneasy on the chance that I mess up. I looked into wrapping them and shops here quoted $450 and hydrodipping would be around $350, so I went the cheap route and used plasti dip. Also, before I upgrade my wheels I put 5 coats on each stock wheel and never had any problems except on one and that was because I scraped my wheel on a rock while on a trail. I did the chrome bumper 3 years ago and it's still holding up with no peeling or flaking, only problem I did have was I had to touch up the corner because again I hit scrape on a rock on a trail. If you lay down enough coats it becomes more durable than most think.

Yeah, flaming on Plasti-Dip is just a fad on this forum. I'm not saying that rock-crawler trucks should be Dipping their skid plates, but it holds up better than most people think. I like it because it's removable and protects the surface underneath

Lay down 2-3 coats of black, then get some shelf/drawer liner, it's like a checkered print but is real grippy, once the black is dry lay the liner over the piece and use gunmetal grey and spray all areas, once you finish the grey use the silver metallizer and dust over the liner and then remove the liner. Once it's all dry to about 1-2 coats of the glossifier

When I go on long camping trips and use my bed extender I spray 3 coats on my tailgate to protect the paint from road/trail debris since it's down the whole time. Once I'm home though I peel it off.

Dipped my lower valence in July of 2013. Still there. So I say not a complete waste at all. Even if it's just there to protect the paint what the hell.

Here it is when I first did it.

And taken just now. Granted, it does kind of look like pooh, but that's just because it rained and the truck is dirty. Still on there just as good as ever.
