I never off road and when I bought my Sport I had a 30 mile (all freeway) round trip compute to work. I like the freeway handling of the Sport. I use 4x4 when it snows and have never gotten stuck. I wanted a Sport and am very happy with it.

That being said, I recommend holding out for what you really want.

Yikes, having a bit of fun by poking the bear a bit and you get your knickers in a twist. :boink: And after I made my post I meant to check something and then modify what I wrote; so what I should have said is, "You do realize you don't need a TRD model to get "push to start", don't you?"

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. Never said you told everyone to drive a manual. I said you took the chance to tell everyone you do.

    Nope. 2WD sport here

But I made up for it with my 5.7L 4x4 Tundra.

    Poking the bear?

    Having a bit of fun?

The question posed was about the thread topic...you kinda veered off course...and now say you were having a bit of fun.

That change would have made a difference though...but, this thread is getting a lot of responses right now.

You don't need an OR or a Sport. I do a ton of offroading, and my SR5 does just fine. If you dont really offroad, stop struggling over nothing. And I poke bears clean through!

I had to look this up to see what it even is. But now that I’m looking at it I agree it’s pretty fugly. Why is it there, and is there any good reason not to remove it? Mileage perhaps?

LOL...You can take it off if you dont like it. Lots of back and forth and banter about it on the forum. I was joking about the expulsion obviously as I still have mine on. Good luck with your decision.

Was between the OR and Sport. Really wanted the factory LED headlamps, only Tacoma my dealer had coming in with them was a few DCSB Sports. All the ORs where either black, or MGM. Those where absolutely out. Chose the only white one they had coming. Swapped out the tires and it cured most of my issues driving unpaved roads.

I'm quite inexperienced off road, and this thing kicks the tar out of my old Trashfinder where I go.

I'm slightly displeased with the Uber stiff suspension though. Outside of that, I really like the thing.

The chin strap(air damn), supposedly reduces wind noise and helps to improve fuel economy. This topic is fairly well debated here. I tore that thing off before I had 500 miles on it.

I would still regret it because I’d want full capabilities, knowing what the OR could offer vs sport or SR5 4x4 or even the trail. I normally would want the best of the best, but I can’t justify the Pro’s price, so I went with what I feel is the best bang for the buck.
The build and ride quality is SO different in the OR 4x4 vs the sport. Maybe I got lucky with build, but this truck just feels like it was assembled better with tighter tolerances and care (maybe my imagination) but I feel my 22 sport wasn’t as good as this new truck. I love it. And honestly, the delta on price isn’t much between the two, so if I was your close homie, I’d push that OR on you.

I can’t comment on the Sport regret as I got the off road version. I don’t know trim packages for Sport be Off Road but if you can still get the tech package that’s the important part.

I don’t do any extreme off roading but the rear locker has come in handy a bunch of times.

The crawl control is stupid. I’ve used it once in six years and thought my truck was going to explode. Terrain settings I haven’t really noticed but I guess it’s cool to have.

In the end I’m glad I got the off road because then I’m never left wondering what if.

    @erok81

It's great that you bought what you felt was right for you.

I enjoy honest feedback and can respect specifics about the features in these trucks--whether they benefit the owner or not.

    Thank you!

One could debate endlessly about the merits of SR5 vs Sport, vs OR, and if you're on the fence now, you're likely to be there forever, unless.....
you trust your gut feelings and get what you want. It's not about the trim level, it's about you. Don't overthink it. Keep looking - you'll find it.

Zero regrets, but my Taco does identify as an OR.

At the risk of derailing this thread even further; the air dam is there to reduce noise inside the cabin, provide a slight improvement in on-road stability at higher speeds, and a slight improvement in fuel economy by directing air around the truck versus letting it roil around under the vehicle. Odds on bet if you rarely exceed 50 mph, you will never see the benefit of the air dam.

I bought a '17 OR without much study. My daily at the time was falling apart and I'd wanted a pickup for years. I got a sales ad email from a local dealer that showed the Quicksand Tacoma Off-Road I eventually bought.
Whereas the truck has been fine for over 2 years now, it has a lot of off-road capabilities and features I'll never use.

In hind-site, I should have waited, done more research and purchased a lower level model with the longer bed.

How do you figure the build quality of the Sport and the Off Road differ??? They are built one after the next on the exact same two assembly lines; there is a virtually zero percent chance of finding a measurable difference in built quality if you examined 100 examples of each models.
