Any way to track location of an “in transit” vehicle purchase?

Got the bug to trade my ‘11 mag gray OR for a voodoo blue ‘21 OR yesterday after scanning my local dealer website and seeing it pop up.

Anyway, since the truck is still in transit to the dealer, they told me “sometime after Christmas”. I realize it’s not like I build this from a factory order and have a ships/cargo ID or anything, but just curious if there’s a way to track the shipment or location progress with my VIN?

    Thanks

Seems like sometime after Xmas is quite a while for a truck that's already in transit. I could be wrong.
Bet you will get a call sooner than that, they may have told you after Xmas just so you won't be calling them everyday.

I know with GM or at least Corvettes you can track them via GPS every step of the delivery process, not sure about Tacomas.

I am pretty sure there is a way to track it, but maybe only someone at Toyota is able to do it. I can tell you what happened in my experience, with my ORDERED truck. When I was talking with the saleslady, who I had been dealing with for months, in my almost never ending debate on whether to buy or not, I finally decided to do it. I went to the dealership, and in talking with the saleslady, she told me that a truck equipped like I was looking for, was scheduled to be built on April 5 2019. This was March 29th, when I was talking with her. I had to let her know by the next day if I wanted it, since it had actually been in the cue to go to another dealer about an hour drive away. But if I said I wanted it by the next day, she could "redirect it" from that dealership and have it sent directly to the dealer where she was. The next day I called her, and we met when the dealership opened at 9am. I gave her $500 as an order deposit, that was completely refundable. On April 5th, which was the designated day of manufacture of my truck, she was able to track it as it began being made on the assembly line, she told me when it was halfway completed, and told me when it had actually been fully built. She then told me it was being readied for drive test, and when it was loaded onto the shipping truck for shipment and delivery from the factory in Mexico, to the dealership in Oakland CA where I was buying the truck. She told me when it successfully crossed the border. On Tuesday April 9th, 4 days after it was built in Mexico, she called me from the dealership in the afternoon, to tell me that the truck had arrived at the dealership! Even she couldn't believe it had gotten there so quickly, as we were both expecting it to take about 10 days or so! I went there when they opened the next morning, and we did all the paperwork for my CASH purchase, while the truck was being readied for delivery. Man, I'll never forget when the service guy drove the truck from around the back of the dealership, and around to the "new Vehicle Delivery" area! Although I knew that I hated the standard grill that comes on the TRD Sport, as most of us do, still, seeing my brand new truck there, well, it was a great feeling! I had pics taken of me with my truck and the saleslady, who by the way, was totally HOT! But even though this may be a somewhat lengthy response to your question, the bottom line is that in my case at least, the saleslady was able to document the whereabouts of my truck, literally from its inception to delivery!
