So, we’re picking up the shiny new Tacoma on Wednesday and are super excited. We’ve never had a keyless ignition or electronic fob so have no idea how to secure our Tacoma when we are surfing. Please help!
PS- this group has been awesome for advice. Gracias!

I mountain bike, but I hate backpacks and don't want my key going through my leg if I fall.

If I feel like I need to lock, I hide my key somewhere on the truck when no ones watching. Like somewhere in the front bumper or on the inside of a frame rail.

Find a spot on your truck exterior where you can stash your keys/fob inconspicuously. Works every time!

If the key fob is near the truck, can’t anyone open the doors?

When I go hunting or fishing with my uncle we stash keys under rear bumper in case the other person needs to get them

With touch less ignition does the key need to be away from the cab? If the keys were hidden too close to the cab could you just open the door and drive away?

You gotta be close up to the door with fob in hand, pocket etc I think... but try it out. I often would stash it in the fuel door- in the actual door there is a cut out that you can slip it behind and it hides nicely or I have also used my bed mat to hide it. Just tossed it under it and you really cant see the small bulge it creates unless you were REALLY looking to steal a key kinda thing. You can also deactivate the fob, which is a PITA to remember to do but it is an option.

I can Lock/unlock with my Apple Watch. It has cellular though.

It’s an App that is a subscription with my 12v solutions remote start.

    Also:
The Fob has a spring loaded/locked hard key integrated into it.
Maybe lock the Fob in the car with the spring loaded hard key and keep the hard key in a zipper pocket of your surf wear?

Side note it also integrates the GPS function into the app, so no matter whether you have your watch on you or iPad or iPhone you can get a real-time location of your vehicle. Think of it as a poor mans lojack.

board shorts has pockets. unwind the truck key and put in your pocket or if you have keyless take the key from the fob and stick it in your pocket.

I either left the key tucked under the truck somewhere or took a small container and buried in the sand near my truck. Did that for 15 years and never had my truck messed with

The fob comes with a valet key. Put that in your wetsuit or trunks (of course tied up with the usual leash string on a wetsuit or trunks). Put the electron fob in the truck cab. Lock door with valet key. Done. Truck won’t open except with valet key.

I usually put my fob under my bed-mat in the bed of my truck if I go out running or something.

Yep, this is what I do with mine. Worst case scenario I get washing machined and my key somehow comes out of my wetsuit all I have to do is call AAA to unlock my truck

I have a MANUAL Taco and had a basic key cut from Home Dept for $3-4 bucks.

I bought a black plastic hid-a-key holder that has a magnetic backing.

I put the key in the hide-a-key holder and attach the magnetic box to
the aft bed, upper metal part.

Blends in perfectly and yes, I have a factory tonneau cover, no issues FWIW.

BE CAREFUL! I have heard stories about folks using their basic Home Depot key to start their cars.
I have not tried it, but have heard some cars can recognize that the key is not a factory key and the ignition holds the key and won't release it. The idea is that the ignition assumes it's being stolen and trys to intervene to stop the theft. HTH.

I can’t vouch for this product. It’s like $45 at Walmart.

    ^This.

Hold the lock button down and press the unlock button twice. Red light on the fob will blink and it is no longer transmitting a signal.
