Got the PSU cable I needed and decided to crack open the 5070ti. Opted to just keep it since I got it at a lower msrp. This card will be going in my HTPC but I wanted to check rops and stuff before my return window is up. Everything is fine and it's a beast! It has chugged through everything I've thrown at it so far. It barely gets over 60C loaded up and the fans stay very quiet. Cyberpunk maxed with transformer DLSS looks and runs incredible. I tried MFG and while it did show higher numbers on the benchmark it was a definitely downgrade for gameplay vs. DLSS. Overall this card is definitely 4k playable, not sure if I need the 5080 after trying this but yolo? Get's here Sat.

    Let's drag race jks.

I feel like frame gen is, in general, fine until you start trying to push too many generated frames from too few rendered frames. As in, if you can drive 100 fps, 300 fps likely looks fine. If you can only drive 60 fps though, 200 fps from frame generation will look like dog pooh.

I will say the XFX Mercury is insane. With the included PTM 7950 she sits around 50-53c. Icy cool, but it is a 4 slot card.

I mean, it's way too early to tell if this is because of supply or demand, but I'm surprised to see AMD jump to 50% share.

The pricing on the next gen laptops is insane. MSI has several models with $7K MSRPs. All for a device that'll be obsolete within two years.

Okay, I placed an order through Newegg and Amazon this afternoon. I'm sure I'll get some flack on some of the components, but they had combo pricing. Otherwise I would have chosen an 850w corsair psu. The Arctic Liquid Freezer iii 360 appears to be sold out almost everywhere. I did find a 420mm version in black on Amazon (listing stated it was ii and iii, so we'll see which version it is when it gets here) along with some MX-6 thermal paste.

Amazon is hit or miss with where they get some of their stuff for resale, so I'll see if I'm keeping the Kraken with the hot garbage software or the Arctic. I really like the Kraken for aesthetics, but I'm aware Arctic runs cooler and is top rated.

Reviews don't show a whole lot of difference between 360mm cooler brand temps and even 360mm vs 420mm cooler temps.

Now I just need to pick a case, keyboard, mouse and grab a copy of Windows 11. Oh, and a monitor.

Newegg says Friday delivery, Amazon says March 24-29.

    Newegg order
    MSI X870e Carbon Wifi
    Samsung 990 Pro 4tb
    MSI MPG A1000GS
    G Skill Trident Z5 64GB
NZXT Kraken Elite 360 (new model with the larger 2.7" screen)

    Amazon order
    Arctic Liquid freezer ii/iii 420mm
    MX-6 thermal paste

Everything is wrong with them, too much to list.

They're marketing geniuses though for people that are easily parted with their money.

I dig the old skool fan controller.

The state of fan control software these days almost makes me want to switch back to hardware

The 6850 was the first graphics card I bought with my own money. Good memories. Drivers were pooh, that's the era where AMD really earned their reputation, but it was still a great value card for the time, basically the followup to the legendary 5770.

Make sure you update the firmware on the SSD before using. The 4 TB isn't very popular and the 990 series has had a lot of updates to deal with faulty firmware that shortens the drives life. There is a decent chance your drive will have older firmware given the 4 TB models don't sell as fast as the 2 TB version.

The pump in most AIOs isn't strong enough to use the extra surface area of a 420 mm radiator to the extent that it shows a major difference in temperatures. I have a corsair one, and the biggest difference I find over a 360 mm is in heat soak. The water in my 420 mm is always 2-3c lower than it was with a similar chip under the 360 mm I ran in my last build. Lower water temperatures mean less wear on the pump as it never gets as hot. I've never seen my water temperature go over 35c.

I won't spend their asking price on this, which is insane IMHO, but I am very interested in seeing the third party reviews this summer. It's an AIO that uses phase change to drive the fluid between the CPU and the radiator. Their first product was optimized for Threadripper and wasn't great on normal CPUs. It also was too heavy and could cause mounting issues, especially if you ever knocked over your PC. This version seems to remedy the old ones problems. The heat plate is sized for LGA 1700 and AM5, the radiator is now mounted to the case instead of the cooler plate, and the fluid and cooler are optimized for this generation of processors. In theory, if the tubes don't weap, it'll have a much longer life span over a pump based AIO. Phase change also means, in theory, that the fluid could be as cold as the environment if you can push enough air through the cooler. It's a very interesting product.

I've heard the Samsung 990 pros have some driver issues. The plan was to grab two 2tb WD or Samsung drives, but with the discount it was cheaper to get the single 4tb. I figure out what works and what needs to be swapped if anything shortly.
