Just brought my truck in to the dealership as i could hear water in my dash when I turned. It would hit the fan and case a bad noise. The dealership said my drain for the ac coming out of the fire wall was clogged. I had done the extension after I bought it so it would not drain on the frame (took that off before bringing it to the dealership). Has anyone had this issue before and more importantly if it happens again is there an easy fix?

I tried sticking a small wire up the drain hose to see if it would unclog before taking it in to no avail. There was no noticeable junk in the hose. I read the service description and it read that they unclogged it and water drained out....

did you tighten the clamp to much? did you ever see water drain from your ac before it clogged after you modded it?

I have not experienced this. I have had my drain extension on for almost 4 years with no issues.

I did the mod about a year ago and it had been draining well. Honestly i completely forgot about it until the back up started to happen. When i took it off the clamp seemed to be adequately clamped but not pinched in anyway

Which method did you use to extend the drain? Use a coupler with another tube of same ID, or did you use a new piece of hose with same ID as the stock tubes OD and slide over the old tube?

I used the same ID method and slid the tube over the existing smaller tube with a small clamp to hold them together.

I really don't think this was the issue. Inside the drip pan there was a clog behind the fire wall.

I live in the Austin TX area and for some reason, Wasps love my FJ Cruiser and Tacoma drain tube.

They make a mud nest there about once a year.

I hold the tube and give a quick burst of air then get out of the way.

About 12 to 20 oz of nasty gunky muddy water with larvae comes flowing out.

What he said. Insects are usually the problem here in Kansas also.

I had that in my 17, took me forever to figure out it was a water issue, at first i though it was a bad speaker giving feedback when turning right, but that waterfall behind the dashboard noise was ridiculous once it get full enough. I ended up having to clear my drain every year, due to a large number of cotton wood trees, their "fluff" was getting past the cabin air filter into the blower motor, and down into the AC drain pan. Check your interior cabin filter to ensure it fits tight/is there.

Man all I need to worry about in Canada is a little ice and even then the engine bay is so warm that's not an issue even into -55`C/-67`F

This is all very good to know. I like the idea of shooting air up there as the wire i put in did nothing. I was a little put off when the service description said "unclogged the drain and water poured out"

    Hi everyone.
My 2014 Tacoma (in Florida) has been having ac drain issues for a couple of years or so... at this point it builds up condensation about a week after giving it a good compressed air blowing.
I have removed drain line and this seems to be in good condition and clear. So I'm assuming the problem lies before the drain tube.
Has anyone finally been able to pinpoint the problem?
    Thanks!

Try using a long zip tie. That will bend easier, but strong enough to poke in there.

    Cryptolime,
I agree.. ridiculous!! Drain line is fine. At some point (when it's not 100° ), I'm going to check the intake filters even though I changed them less than a year ago.
I can't think of anything else that doesn't involve major part removal.
In the meantime I will continue with blowing compressed air into drain line.
    Thanks for posting!

Mine was dripping a little on the passenger side floor mat, the oil change tech blew air into the hose, that worked. Guess it was clogged up.

    Be safe
