Just trying to prep for our first child that is expected this December...I know they make sun screen/shades for general car windows, but noticed my mom's VW has magnetic custom shade/screens for when she's lugging around my 11 month old nephew.

Any 3rd Gen Taco Dads/Moms with experience with either the general sized or any custom sized UV window protection for their kiddos?

Yeah, it's called window tint. I have a layer of 35% on the back glass which brings it down to ~20%.

Virginia is pretty picky, and the Troopers like to get the meter out while your stuck on interstate and highways (has happened to former boss, several friends...not to mention local police love to use the tint as an open invite to find more issues/violations [NOT Hating on LEO, just pointing out "facts" as I've run across them).

I have some tint from the factory it appears...but VA requires more than 50% light transmission through front side windows, more than 35% light transmission through the rear windows.

My personal take is, yeah nice tint job, within the legal requirements (likely allow 53% front and 38% rear to just be extra safe...), but figured something temporary and not needing to "go to the shop" approach, especially with the wife now looking at trading in the small sedan for a minivan or SUV...so I'm sure any "real" tinting will be on her future grocery/baby get'er!

I figured you were going to say the SOS low pro bumper would solve the problems:D

I got one of those too!

Window tint will block out 99% of all UV - which for me was very important for our first kid. My truck has tint all the way around, because my kid has fair skin like I do...and our GX 460 has Suntek CIR on all glass as well.

You can get it as light as "UV only", or even 70% which you cannot even tell there is tint on the window.

Not sure about VA, but here in NC on a truck or SUV the back windows do not have any regulations on the darkness (only cars do).

    Closed mouth don't get fed...
I have them for the truck and my civic (2008 with a windshield the size of Alaska!!!!). They're great, especially when parked out in the summer sun and heat while camping, shopping mall trips, leaving it in outside airport parking for weeks!!!

I know terminology is weird, sun screen vs sun shade...thanks though!

I had that problem when I lived in Ohio. Had to remove tint from 2 different cars. Back then if you tinted legal you honestly couldn't tell there was any tint at all. Now they let you tint as dark as you want except for the front side windows.

Had a 87 Z28 that I really wanted to tint the back window because the car sat so low.

Bought a 1/4" thick piece of dark tinted plexiglass, cut to fit and made some brackets so it sat right behind the back seat.

Got pulled over a couple times for it, but they couldn't give me a ticket cause the glass was factory, and you could see thru the plexiglass, so there was no obstruction of view.
