I've just been fortunate to have purchased a near-mint condition 2005 Tacoma base - and it has the original tires still on it! Of course my first task is to replace the tires and I would prefer to install a light truck type tire. The tires available in the original size (215/70R15) are very limited and none seem to be LT type. The LTs are all 215/75R15, which is about a 3% circumference increase. Has anyone installed this size tire which is seemingly minor difference?

You're right the difference is minimal. I wouldn't think it would cause a problem. Hopefully someone here has first hand knowledge.

    I am.

I am running Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus that I got from Costco. Without digging into things, I think this is a P tire, but they have been very good for my purposes.

You also gain 1" of real lift (at the axle line) due to the larger diameter. Doesn't sound like much, but you can actually notice it getting in/out of the truck. I wasn't seeking lift, so my suspension is stock.

No rubbing. Largest width on the OE 6" wheels that is safe.

@Rocket44 we also have a sub forum dedicated to our 5 lugs. You might find it helpful

Throw on some 235-75-15. They ride night and day better and feel like it’s how the truck should have came from the factory. I did that with my 2WD I used to have.

LT tires on a base tacoma would be like a 7 year old running around in steel toed boots. Overkill for the sake of overkill. I'd stick to P-metric and enjoy your superior MPG and ride quality.

Did your mpg take any kind of a hit? I’m getting 23 mpg around town with oem size and would like to stay around that number- which is darn good for a truck. But there are a lot more options for tires sizes bumping up to 235 so that makes sense. I’m sure the truck looks a little better proportioned as well
