Any interest in a swaybar disconnect?

My buddy and I are thinking about building a single sided disconnect for the 05+ tacomas. ANy interest? How much would you pay? The price would probably be cheaper if you send your stock swaybar back as a core charge.

Thought about it at one point but removing the sway bar completely is just sooo much better.

Right here. I had my sway bar off last week and was loving it. I'm thinking about removing it permanently, but the ability to quick connect it for twisty roads would be good?

I am wondering though. What is this one sided part? I thought that the bar end would snag the CV boot with only one side disconnected?

It would be similar to this. Some guy made it for FJs but it never went into production. I would have a different endlink though, Im not a fan of this design.

For a stock Tacoma disconnect sway bar link would be ideal since the suspension ins't as stiff. I believe you may have trouble with just a single disconnect with the bar and CV boot but haven't tested to confirmed.

On the surface, that looks good, but. . .

In that design, given how close that bolted connection is to the main torque section, it is going to see some huge moment loads. There are a lot of elements there (bolt bending / shear, welds, and base material) that would have to be incredibly beefy for long term use. Not to mention some tight tolerance holes.

IMVHO, you'd want that connection to be a lot closer to the joint or do a spline and collar?

Just making some hopefully helpful pointers?

Pardon my ignorance, but why would you not want the swaybar connected, or not have it at all?

That's what we are looking into as well, but also still keep it rather inexpensive!

I want one and would pay a fair amount for it. Please build, and or let me test it for you. Lol. Thanks.

We have rounded driveway curbs like these:

    2018-02-22_9-22-29.jpg

Going over them at any angle tosses us side to side with the sway bar. With it off, you can barely feel it.

It is the same with speed bumps, potholes, and just about anything off road. Also, it lets the suspension function independently. So, if you are close to getting hung up, esp with the limited travel up front, you have a bit of extra margin.

Good stuff! It is a challenge.

Anything that you can do to increase the bolt spacing will help.

I like the idea and I believe there is a market for quick disconnect sway links for Toyotas but unlike the jeeps folding up the sway far enough out of the way will be the biggest challenge. The jeep sway bar tucks closer to the body so tire turning wont cause rubbing while the Tacoma bows out that will cause interference with CV boot, UCA and tires. If you could figure out the sway bar then maybe it would all work. An idea if you could cut the sway bar in half weld 2 plates one on each and have a locking mechanism like the T-locks on swing out tire carrier (Obviously a lot stronger than the lock in the picture) to lock and unlock.

Sway bars reduce body roll/flex. Good for handling, bad for articulation. Generally for sportier cars, you want to balance the front sway bar for stiffness versus understeer. Bigger sway bars can improve turn-in, reduced body roll, etc. Too thick up front and you'll get more understeer.

On stock OR suspension I, personally, would not remove it as the OR suspension is so boat-like already. However on my firmer Icon shocks, I'm debating on removing it.
