Any high mileage 3rd gens using Chevron Techron before oil changes?

Any high mileage 3rd gen guys use the Chevron techron fuel system cleaner before their oil changes?

 

No, but I use a bottle of Amsoil P.I. fuel additive to keep injectors clean at every oil change (every 5k miles). Almost to my 15k mile change.

 

I thought these engines had a self cleaning cycle that made additives unnecessary.

 

Mainly why I ask, it has self cleaning injectors right?

 

From my understanding vehicles with Direct Injection suffer from build up of Carbon, the way Toyota is dealing with this is by also using traditional style injection in tandem in order to keep everything clean so a good fuel system cleaner should be of some benefit.

I run a can of SeaFoam every month (about ever 4th-5th gas tank), mostly out of habit, and the fact that all the gas in my area has around 10% ethanol and I hate that crap.

 

I always thought it was for fuel economy. Direct injection being better at higher RPM's and Port Injection better at startup and lower RPM's. There is also the "self cleaning" cycle of the direct injectors to consider as well.
Maybe one of the effects is less carbon build at low RPM since the direct injectors are off, so maybe it's multiple reasons for having this convoluted FI system.

 

If you look up Direct Injection you will find they all suffer from Carbon Build up, its also good that Toyota was slow to adopt it so they could come up with a way to address it.

 

It can be cleaned and l believe the latest generation of Eco-Boost Engines do the same as Toyota.

Mine should be very clean then. I have to floor it to get useful torque daily.
