I've got a few paint chips, mostly on the hood and one on the tail gate i can't get right. Had one on the edge of the rear passenger door that filled in nicely but the rest of them I can't get to match well.

Any tips? Also my first time doing paint chip repair so my expectations may be a bit high.

These should give you some good tips:

Lookup Dr. Colorchip too for a more DIY friendly method, should be many videos on it.

Dr. Colorchip is a great DIY option. They color match for your vehicle. No clear coat to apply - just layer their product to fill the chip. It's a permanent solution and you can polish over it if needed. If you're the video type, Anthony from The Rag Company has a great walk through on his YouTube channel.

No worries. Before using Dr. Colorchip, I would use the touchup pens, but I would apply the paint to the chips with a dental gum stimulator (you can get packs of them on Amazon). Make sure you clean out the chip really well (use the same process in the video I linked). From there, I would put some paint on a paper plate, dip the tip of the gum stimulator into the paint, and dab it into the chip. If it's deep, you may have to layer it a little. Once you get close to it being level, finish it off using the same method with the clear paint. Takes a while, but it will look better than if you were trying to cover it up with the small brush in the touch-up pens. If you have the stuff, you could give it a very light sand and polish when you're done, too. Just give it a couple days to make sure it's good and dry before you do.
