Ok, What about up travel? I do the chop, fender and pinch cutting and smashing. But won’t it hit on up travel? That’s kinda what I’m worried about most.

It's a little lower than factory and I really don't like mine. I'm running 305/65r17's and after my first long drive with the tires on I am really wishing I just left the 3.73's alone.

Edit: Also worse for towing because the with 3.73's and 33's you could do 65 at a comfy 2600rpms in 4th but with 4.10s you're at almost 3k. All around regretting it and I almost spent as much 2/3 as much as a supercharger to do it

305/65r17 works out to Approx 32.6, 287/75r17 works out to about 33.8. (I realize these are idealized calculations). 4.10/3.73= aprox 1.10 and 33.8/30.6= aprox 1.09. Ideally I’d have slightly more than a 10% gear change to compensate for not just the increased diameter but also the increased rotational inertia. I decided not to do this for a couple of reasons. First, is that my truck is not and never will be a crawler, I have a Jeep for that. Second, I have a 6 spd so overdrive is already lacking going down the highway. Finally, I got the front diff from a 4 cylinder for cheap so total cost will be just about a grand which isn’t bad. I’m done with driving around with big tires sans regear, been there done that and I can’t stand it. WRT a supercharger I’m just not a fan of forced induction on an engine who’s primary goal is long term reliability.

ETA: 33’s we’re right at my limit for not regearing, I believe these will be needed for how I drive my truck; I also plan to try and tow my heep. FWIW, I’m very happy to report that we literally did 480 miles yesterday and today we’re headed into Capitol Reef and hopefully down into Escalante.

I mean, I think my truck is still quicker than it was stock and 305/65r17 ko2's are something like 62 lb per tire? Rims are really light though, only like 24 lb but that doesn't account for much of the inertia. Still a heavy tire package.

I like the 4.10s pretending I have a sports car but highway driving mpg is terrible mileage and range or really slow, both which suck.

Got mine mounted up yesterday. I still need to flex it out and figure out what else to cut.

    In case anyone is wondering:
285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers on 17 x 8.5 (4.3BS) SCS F5's. Front is sitting at about 2.5" lift , SPC UCA's, CMC, pinchweld beatdown, heated and reformed the wheel well liners, corner of fender flare trimmed.

    Compared to my dad’s 285/70/17 KO2s.

    Absolutely love these tires!

This is the exact setup I have and I’m thinking about these tires. Any regrets?

No regrets but 2 more quick things I should add. I was able to finally get them to rub by hitting a dip at relatively high speed and I am really glad I regeared.

Awesome info in this thread. Considering this size for my next set.

So what are the drawbacks to deleting the fender liners? Thats one of my concerns. Does mud/salt/shit get up where it shouldn’t?? I love the look of those trimmed fenders though.

Did you ever end up weighing these? There’s a lot of confusion online about these. Especially since Nitto lists the C’s as weighing more than the E’s, which seems ass backwards. You like them though?

I did not weigh them but I will probably be getting another one shortly ; I’ll try to get a weight for them.

I really like these tires. I was running KO2s before and compared to them I think they are quieter and they definitely have better traction on wet roads. I’m not knocking the KO2s, they took a lot of abuse and lasted a very long time. It remains to be seen how long these will last, if it’s close to the mileage I got out of my KO2s I’ll probably pick up another set of the Nittos but if they wear quickly then I might go back to the KO2s

That would be great. It would clear up a lot of confusion. There was a guy on a 4Runner forum that contacted Nitto, and they had said the listed weight is correct and its due to ‘construction’, which seems like a canned answer and still doesn’t explain why the E’s of the same tire are listed as being lighter.

You ever do any snow? I’m guessing they’re not great snow tires, which I see a fair amount of. The main reason these are at the top of my list is that they’re the only C’s out there. But, if they truly are heavier....

I do drive in the snow a decent amount but haven’t gotten these into the snow yet so can’t really comment other than to say the wet weather traction has been excellent.

I kept it relatively high and went 4.11.

I got a good deal on a front diff from a 4cyl and ECGS is a bargain for 3rd members. I was able to swap both myself so overall cost was relatively low.

While I do wheel this truck, and I will rock crawl with it, it will never be a full fledged crawler (I have a TJ for that). It's my DD and road tripper so I wanted to keep the RPMs in acceptable range and being a manual I can get away with the taller gears. Tire diameter increased by about 10% (33.8" / 30.6" = 110 and 4.11 / 3.73 = 110 ) so I am pretty close to the factory ratio. If it was my crawler I would put a crawl box in it or have gone with deeper gears.

I just removed my 285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers. Had them for about 20k miles and started to really hate the power loss and tranny always having to downshift.
I didnt want to regear my truck and didn’t think i would have to with the 34’s. But anyone thinking about going with the 34’s. I would definitely think about regearing.
I swapped them out for the C Load KO2’s and wow! Soo much better. Got my power back and they ride smoother.
I will get some pics tomorrow morning and also weigh the 34” Ridge Graps

Heres the difference of the 285/75/17 Nitto’s vs. the 285/70/17 KO2’s. Nitto’s have about 20-25k miles on them.
And they are 62-63 pounds. New they say they are around 66 pounds. Damn heavy tires. The BFG C loads are 51 pounds. And the little smaller 33 im perfectly happy with.

Here is another comparison of 285/75 vs 285/70. Your pic with the 75 off the truck isnt really a good comparison since the 70 has the weight of the truck on it.

These pics I have aren’t much better but gives kind of an idea.
Front is 285/75r17 wildpeak, rear is 285/70r17 ko2. The 75s are a much bigger and heavier tire I do agree.
