Have you all heard of Ravelco or Igla as anti theft devices that sort of work like two factor authentication to start your truck? Trying to get a feel for what works best with our trucks.

On a related note.............for insurance purposes, does the 2024 have any type of basic anti-theft installed as standard?

Ravelco requires hacking up your wiring harness to splice in the module to a number of different systems and is not easily reversible. Any warranty issues that could be blamed on the affected components are an easy denial for service.

IGLA is a software based solution owned and based in Russia if that is a concern of yours. It offers a lot of other benefits over Ravelco but is all software rather than a physical prevention.

For a lot less money you could go with a Mobilistics relay replacement. Several options for an activation using a Bluetooth remote keyfob, remote activation with a different switch or wiring it into another system such as headlights so the relay isn’t energized unless your left blinker is on, for example.

The most common way they're stealing the newer cars these days is using the OBD port.

To those interested in not wasting brain cycles watching a Youtube video edited for monetization length, just google, "OBD port lock" and go down the rabbit hole.

From a prone position stuck my head over the ledge and said, "I'll come back another time". Going to need my canyoning gear.

I get it. Lots of projects to complete. Given my last truck was stolen, I’m shellshocked and going to over index on security.

Is it? I thought it was just via accessing the CANBus. I remember seeing a few videos of guys rolling up, prying the headlight out of a car (an Acura?) and then splicing some CANBus gizmo in and using it to put the car into a state where it could be started and driven without a fob or a key.

I might just be splitting hairs here. I think there's a CANBus endpoint in some of the unused (for OBD) pins on the OBDII plug, anyway.

Either way, it really does make a guy wonder how the fob really is better than pushing a button to unlock the car and turning the ignition stick to start it. I can't say as I've ever really sat there and thought "man, pushing this button is hard and turning this key is just too much work." In fact, I thought the opposite last time the battery in the key on my current car died and the alarm went off then I unlocked the door with the key.

Back in the 90's when I used to install alarm systems, I'd offer to wire up an ignition or ECU kill relay to the driver's seat belt switch. To start the car, you'd have to put your belt on first.

The problem with the obd port lock is just like wheel locks the thief will just have multiple keys.

the mobilistics is pry the best solution. I installed a kill switch device to my starter in an old Corolla since cars where getting stolen at my old place of work. Similar thing. If they can’t start it, they ain’t going anywhere

I love simple. I’d just need help with installing something like this. I wonder if anyone does this where I live.

What if there was a removable OBD port you could take with you? I guess it would have to be wired in line, but if you could get a quick connector that no one else could replicate. Disconnect the conector and know one else could tap into the OBD port. Car theives would eventually find a work around.

I got one of those and then saw one on a torn off steering wheel a few days later.
