Rookie maneuver, I know. Most of the short replacement ones I have seen have bad reviews (bad radio signal). Anyone have any recommendations?

Are you talking about one of those mechanical automatic car wash machines? Nope not me!
Those things scratch your paint, don’t clean worth a damn, cost money and will damage your vehicle to the point it will drive you to post your mistake on the interweb.

Mine broke off on a trail somewhere... I just use bluetooth so it doesn't matter.

this happened to me last winter when I just couldn't stand how dirty my truck was and had to get it cleaned. It's very common for these antennas to break off and when they do you probably won't be able to get the rest of the shaft out. Fortunately, the place that washes the vehicles replaced my antenna. They have to go into the fender and take it all apart. then replace the part that the antenna screws into. Whole thing cost about $200 at an auto body place.

It sounds like a good time to LT it. The fiberglass fenders don't have the hole drilled for the antenna so it'll cover it up nicely.

Same thing happened to me. I went with this antenna and it works well.

Drill and easy-out properly applied will remove the broken piece.

Those things are so bad that they're good. Might have to go with it.

And yes... I have Sirius and bluetooth but I really like listening to coast to coast AM on long night drives through the wilderness and creeping myself out. Sure there are podcasts options that will get me to the same place but I like old fashion radio sometimes.

Thanks for feedback. If I decide to avoid the 'cool guy' effect of the 50 cal antenna, I will go with this!

Been going to three different car washes and never had a problem before with my 2011. Yesterday, it happened. Toyota dealership wants $207 parts and $225 and up for labor!
Not sure how damaged as seems to be broken off at top of base on fender.
Do I have to replace the whole thing or does the antenna part just unscrew and new one screw in? have seen replacements from reputable sources for about $35 and up (mast only).
My wife never listens to radio since we have a CD player and hundreds of CD's. I only listen to one station if going on a 10 minute or less trip close by.
    Thanks.
