A rock cracked my windshield the other day and scheduled an appointment at Safelite.

Went there and came back without replacing the windshield because of my 17” wheels and lift. They say they cannot calibrate the sensors. Non-OEM. (Estimate going through my insurance was just the deductible)

Called the dealer and they wanted $1,900. Called a different dealer and they wanted $700 for the windshield and they would refer me to another place to do the install. Don’t know how much they will charge to install.

Think I do need calibration? I will not pay $1900 at the dealer. (Los Angeles area)

I have never had a calibration done after a windshield replacement on multiple 3rd gen Tacoma Sports I have owned. My 2023 Sport windshield was replaced the first week I owned it and it was not calibrated. The 2023 windshield replacement cost was $400.

I do not spend the extra cash on OEM glass because the high volume of rock/gravel trucks in my area usually hammer a windshield once a year for me.

You're in the LA area, I guarantee there are windshield replacement shops that are also set up to calibrate. Call around. Usually runs an extra $3-500 from what I've read previously. I pay an additional car insurance adder for my windshield for this reason. I think it's like $2 a month. You can also do a comp claim to cover both if you want to just pay the deductable and go full OEM. Talk to your insurance it might be a wash that way if you have a low deductable.

What are they calibrating? Lane departure and smart cruise control? Do you have that?

I left my rear-view mirror connected during the windshield change. Nothing was needed but a windshield. $285 in NorCal. Came the next day and took care of it. Easy.

I just scheduled an appointment with the mobile glass guy the dealer recommended, but they don’t do calibration. The earliest appointment I could make is for is a week plus a few days.
I will research a bit more, but I’ll probably just keep that appointment. I probably will not calibrate.

Windshield does not need to be recalibrated if they don't disconnect the mirror or or ldws. These shops are killing people with this. I installed this 22 tacoma windshield no calibration needed

Op it's nothing more than a money grab. Of course oem glass will always be more expensive but that windshield aftermarket is probably no more than 150$. I wouldn't charge more than 300 for a install on a 3rd gen. I hear more horror stories from people that go to safelite than anything else. Good luck

Thanks. That’s why I decided not to go with Safelite. Going with the mobile person a Toyota dealer referred me to after I bought the Oem windshield ($700). I’m not getting the Oem.

**Baja Designs fog light replacement will have to wait.

I always like to chime in when I see windshield threads started. Been in the business for 18yrs.

What the actual F??? Why not just have glass coverage on your insurance? I've had my windshield replaced twice now, maybe even three times... The first, no money out of my pocket and they even gave me a check for $150. $0 for the other two as well. Every time it was replaced with OEM glass too.

I have comprehensive coverage, but my deductible is $500. This is the first time out of my past 4 trucks, 1 Porsche, 2 Hondas and a few other vehicles that I had a damaged windshield.
    It was off my radar

Same here. I use progressive. Have the comprehensive with a $500 deductible with full glass coverage. Windshield has been replace a couple times on my wife's car too. Still $0 out of my pocket for those too.

My truck windshield was recal'ed every time by the windshield people too. Not a single comment about my lift or 33's.

IMG_7806.jpg I’ve replaced thru Dealership, and replaced via independent shop. OEM glass is made by Pilkington, it gets the Toyota label on it. Same product from Pilkington is much cheaper. For my 2020:

*1st time they said they recalibrated. 2nd time they said no need if it wasn’t unplugged. Zero issues with TSS, don’t worry.

If I can ask a question, why couldn't Safelite calibrate the sensors with a small lift on the truck? I guess I am assuming the lift is under 3" maybe the OP has a 6 inch drop bracket lift or something. Is there limit to the amount of lift that the stock sensors will be Compatible?

I have an Icon 2 2/3” (approx) lift with 17” Methods wearing 285/70/17’s. They looked at it and said they can not calibrate, also if I take it to the dealer to calibrate, they wouldn’t touch it because it is not Oem glass.
