I’ve been looking into getting a set of 285/75/16s. I read some of the reviews on BFGoodrich’s website that KO2’s aren’t as good quality as they used to be and that a lot of people have had trouble balancing them, have cracks in the sidewall, and don’t last as long as they should. Has anyone experienced any of these things?

The BFG KO3 is coming out.....

Can't say I regret the KO2 either. All depends on what performance you are looking for.

They sell a bajillion of them for solid reasons.
They are “good “ at most qualities you might want in a truck tire. There are better tires in mud, but they are noisy on road and awful in snow. There are quieter, smoother riding tires that give great mileage …and will fail quickly in the backwoods.
Reviews tend to give the KO2 a ⅘ in most categories. If you drive on widely varied surfaces and in 4 seasons….they are a good “one tire quiver.”
Answering your question: have had none of the issues you mentioned on the most recent sets (2018 & 2022) on my wife’s truck in the BC mountains.

Haha not trying to stir anything up. Just trying to get some clarity! I’m open to any AT tire really. KO2’s are my first choice but I saw quite a few reviews on BFGoodrich’s website saying similar things about cracking sidewalls and then not lasting long. Just wanting a good all around AT tire that last quite a while

For what I need, the BFG KO is a great tire. (Deep snow, snowpack, towing, strength, longevity)

Ko is a decent tire but there are better options for less cost.

If my truck were a dedicated off road truck, I would run KO2 without hesitating. But as a daily driver, they are way to stiff in the sidewall for me (in the E rating). I tried them for a few days and the drive quality was absolutely miserable.

Everyone always likes to recommend their personal favorite AT tire and a while ago I read one post that I thought was pretty reasonable. Whoever it was, they said that if you get an AT tire from any of the major manufacturers you will probably be reasonably happy with your purchase.

Since you said you are open to any AT tire, I’ll throw in my two cents. I’ve never had the K02’s but I have read a lot of
    mixed reviews about them.

Personally, I have the General Grabber ATXs. General bills them as a hybrid tire (in between an all terrain and a mud terrain) and I really love them. 60K mile treadwear warranty, 3PMS rating, lots of siping so they are really good in wet and winter weather. Just my two cents, I think they are an underrated and overlooked tire. I don’t see many people with them.

I’ve had mine for a little over 30K now and I would definitely buy another set.

It's almost time for new tires here as well. Looking at switching from a mud tire to an all terrain. Have you looked at toyos r/t trail? Decent looking tire. As for KO2's, I have no personal experience but my father has been running them on his truck since forever and just recently replaced with another set of KO2's with no complaints.

I've been running KOs for over 20 years on two different Toyota trucks. I did have one set years ago that had popcorning. The latest set I've had no problems and they balanced well. Have somewhere over 40K and it's time to start looking to replace them before another 10K. I've looked at other ATs and keep coming back to KOs as a middle ground tire. Not perfect, but a good fit for what I want.

Truth told, at this point I could probably go for something more street oriented, but I'd hate to find myself with a lack of traction and no one to pull me out in the middle of nowhere or in the snow at O'dark thirty, than to have something more quiet or that will get 10K more miles. A known quantity is worth something to me.
