Hate having stuff under my seat and I like to be organized so I needed to make some sort of storage system for behind my seats in my regular cab. There are a few other threads but when I was looking for ideas I wanted more threads to draw inspiration from. So here’s another one for future people to flip through.

I mainly used this post by @Rainmaker. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/regular-cab-behind-seat-storage.350292/

Used 3/4” MDF and 1/2” OSB because I had it lying around. If I were to buy materials for another one I would use 1/2” MDF for the whole thing.

Thankfully there are M6 threaded holes ripe for picking on the back wall, so convenient! Most people might have trouble aligning the screws to the back board. What I did was thread in my stainless button head Allen screws, use a paint marker to wet the heads and carefully line up and press the back board into it’s position. Then drill out where the paint is. I stepped up the drilled holes to 1/4” because it makes it easier to thread in the screws with some wiggle room. I ended up not using the center screw. My ball receiver was vibrating on it and it only really needs two fasteners to hold the unit upright since it’s sitting on the floor.

I was looking for carpet that matched the grey interior and landed on the medium grey from PartExpress.com. I first had them send me some free samples. The part number for this carpet is 260-767. As you’ll see it matches pretty well although it’s a little more shaggy than what’s in the truck from factory. I didn’t take any shots mid build, sorry. The two square tubes in the center is 2 1/2” ID 1/8” wall steel square tubing that I cut, welded together and carpeted to hold my two hitches. Ended up sliding perfectly in place and retained by three Allen screws, two in front and one in back.

Here it is in place and you can see how much room I still have.

I wish I had extended it up farther to cover the full back so I could mount more things to it in the future so I made another separate piece. I unfortunately decided to drill the back of the truck to install M6 nutserts. I hate drilling into the truck but it was the only good option I came up with.

And here’s the finished product. I welded up and powdercoated some brackets to hold the tool kit on the left and my ice scraper on the right. Lastly, to prevent things hitting the exposed metal screw heads I put in some black plastic screw head covers.
