Hey guys... I'm sure we have a few professional installers lurking these forums. Question.

Can I change the angle of my head unit stereo install? I'm assuming it's somewhat customizable to match different Dash kits, model years and stereo brands.

My Pioneer AVIC-7100 NEX was stolen. I got a Pioneer NEX-7200 to replace it. But the place installed it way different. Instead of back, recessed, and flat, it's sticking out of my dash and aiming at the ceiling.

Can I pull off the trim, get in there, and fix it? Or do I need to take it to a different shop? Here's the new stereo first, then the old one.

Now the old (I kept the dash kit, so I could go back to it, I suppose)

    Thoughts from some professionals ?

Yeah me too.. the stereo is almost the same. I wonder if he did it that way because of the dash kit. If so, I kept my old one. I'll use that.

It is a different dash kit so unfortunately with the current kit/trim you have - no. You could adjust or re drill the mounting brackets but then the screen would sit back behind the trim with an open gap. Your previous dash kit was the Scoshe brand kit and your current dash kit is Metra. I prefer the cosmetics of the Metra kit and use it myself but I agree the angle sucks and catches way too much sun glare too.

Hey thanks man.. that makes sense. Yeah I like the texture but the Schosche was way better. So there's no middle ground? With the screws on the side of the unit it's the way mine is, or way back in, where the Metra would have an open crack.

The installer had a second kit, similar texture. Wonder what brand that is and how it sits.

I have my Scosce still. Just the plastic that goes around stereo, is there other parts? How hard would it be to swap it myself? I've done 4-5 stereo installed back in the day, just never a dual din.

I think I need a new Scosche kit cuz I only have the trim, not the brackets. Although it's possible he just reused the same brackets from before. Unless they broke when my stereo was stolen. (Went from 7100 to 7200-NEX)

This metra kit has a black insert that covers that gap... This might work, and look better than the Scosche. Thoughts @Evenflow

what you have now in your truck is the Metra kit with the Metra trim so if you try to adjust the position of the stereo you're going to have a gap. I don't the the Scoshe kit will work unless your stereo has a "can" or sleeve that it slides into because the Scoshe kit is a front load kit. The only way you can position your stereo how it used to be is to use the Scoshe kit.

Ah ok.. in my screenshot above the metra looks like the bottom trim is thicker, to prevent the gap. But maybe it's the top or some other area.. if the trim is like what i have now, yeah, that wont work. Fuh. Sounds like you do this for a living, so I'll trust you.

My Schosche is missing the mounting hardware. It's literally just the front piece. So I'm assuming I need to but an entire new kit.

So my last question. If it's front loading that means I must completely take the entire head unit out, put the dash kit in, then slide it back into place, huh. Basically a completely new install.

I was an installer years ago when I was a kid. Yeah, front loading is not too common any more. It is where you have the metal sleeve that the stereo slides into from the front and it then requires a key to remove the stereo. I was wrong about the Schosche kit, it can be used both front load and ISO ( rear mount )...memory a bit fuzzy. Yeah, it sounds like you would need a whole new kit unless one of your local shops has the spare bits and pieces they would be willing to give you...it is very common that shops have bins full of those unused kit parts so it might be worth a few phone calls.

Oh ok.. thanks again man. I appreciate it. Yeah I didn't need a key to slide it in or out. I don't think anything uses that method anymore.

I might run it to a shop and see what they say. I'm sure we could swap the kit and reangle the install for like $50. I might try doing it myself

You don't need to be a professional to install a stereo. I've had 4 aftermarket head units in my 2010 RC since April 2013. I've always bought my gear on Crutchfield. First head unit was a Pioneer single-DIN that I paid my friend to put in. The other three my neighbor helped me install.

I've always used the dash bezel provided by Crutchfield, which is made by Metra and is available in black or silver. I have no idea why the shop would install your head unit pointing up like that, but I would buy the Metra kit.

Well I think he used the metra kit... Either way I don't like it.

And the angle is terrible for my little one. I'ma change it.

I've installed several stereos.. just been a while. More involved with a big one like this? Or no. Just plug and play mostly.

Does anyone know what it would take to put a scosche dash kit designed for a 12-15 model into my 09?
