Android Auto not alerting new messages

Curious if there's a setting I'm missing. Whenever my Samsung S21 is plugged in via USB new incoming texts don't alert on my phone or radio display.

Figured it out.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Android Auto on the phone and things work now.

 

Turns out my old fix was temporary. Android Auto forces an update so the issue was still present and Android Auto would not alert whenever I received a text message.

-22 Toyota Tacoma non JBL head unit
-Galaxy S21 on Android 13
-Latest Android Auto update (it forces the update to operate)

The factory Bluetooth never had issues with receiving text messages.

Android Auto on the other hand allowed sending of text messages but would not alert whenever a new text message was received. No sound from the radio, nothing on the display, my phone wouldn't even make a notification chime since Android Auto is supposed to be happening. Going into the Android Auto Messages App would result in no new messages despite them being on the phone.


This setting is somewhat buried in the messages app of the phone. Turning it on enabled Android Auto to receive text messages.

"Messages - Settings - Notifications - In App Notification Settings"

This drove me nuts for 6 months, hopefully this helps anyone else with this isolated issue.
