See if there is a local distributor for Amsoil in your area. I picked up 6 quarts of the Severe Gear Oil for $69.30 at my local dealer.

That PDF looks like it was produced by Amsoil. Not exactly impartial.

I switched to Amsoil SVG in my previous Tacoma. That, combined with Redline MT90 in the 5-speed manual gave me a 15% increase in mpg.

Would I have gotten a similar bump with Mobil1 synthetic? Obviously I can't know, but M1 is nothing to sneeze at, and your gears will out last your truck with either lube. I suspect it would have performed the same as Amsoil.

But you can probably shop around and get Amsoil cheaper. In my area, the local Napa store carries it.

It seems like Amsoil Severe Gear is leaps and bounds better than other gear oils.

My prediction: Your differential will last for 400k miles with Amsoil, and only 393k miles with Mobil1. But you will have sold the truck at 242k miles, and will have long since stopped caring about it.

You will have used the money you saved to take your girl out for a drink, and got her pregnant, gotten married, and become a father.

    And bought a minivan.

While I do use Redline mt-90 in my transmission, I think Mobil 1 is more than adequate for the diff's. As long as u maintain at regular intervals, ur good. I'm not spending extra $$ for diff oil. Its just oil. I've used Mobil 1 for years, no problems here.

We ran Amsoil Severe Gear in the corvette.... as it was recommended by most corvette owners. The severe gear has the friction modifier in it.

I use Mobile 1 in the truck with XL3 (Ford) friction modifier.

I can't say anything bad about either one of them. Cost & availability is the biggest issue (for me).

We have an Amsoil Distributing Center in town and I actually went down there to purchase some (without a Rep). They gave me a hard time that I needed to be a Rep or have a Rep represent me. Just seems like a royal PITA to buy the stuff. No Thanks

^^True that. You would think if they wanted to make more money, amsoil would make their products as easily available as almost all of their competitors seem to be.

just keep fresh oil in what ever it might be...

change out the break in diff oil before 10k miles... this will save your diff.
