I think I'm going to get amsoil for my next oil change. And I'm thinking of doing the same for my wife's Subaru Forester. Since she has to change her oil per manufacturer rec. Every 6k for full synth. Would she also change to once per year with amsoil? Or would it require a slightly more frequent changing?

Photos of an Amsoil By-pass Oil Filter kit mounted on the cross member and protected by a mid-skid plate. It is on a 2.7L - so the exhaust system cooperates with this location.
I used treated lumber for a riser, nylon plate as a foot, and aluminum plate as a head. Everything coated with Amsoil heavy duty MP (note the orangish color). Very solid, sturdy mount with no movement. Later, I wrapped the exhaust downpipe with fiberglass tape to shield the oil hoses from heat. Works perfectly!

How many miles does she drive per year? If more than 6K, just use the OE line and change at 6K. If right around 6K or less, every year is fine.

Great install. How many miles oci are you going with the bypass? Just curious.

Yet to be determined. I've been doing 25k with a 12,5k filter change (normal full flow filter). I'll let the oil analysis tell me what length now. I expect quite long, given that I have the Japan built engine.

This is an interesting set up I haven't thought about before. Let me get this straight, the amsoil is clearly great oil, but the oil filters still need to be changed out at their own end of life. And you can't really change out the cartridge oil filter without draining the whole thing. Is that the purpose for your set up then? To change the filter without losing the engine oil?

It won't drain the whole amount because the orig filter is above the oil level in the pan. BUT it will drain out the contents in the hose and that is more than I'd like to lose. I will try to catch it in a clean container and if I'm happy it stayed uncontaminated, I'll put it back in the engine. Could even put it back through a paint filter for extra peace of mind.
Because of the oci, it won't happen very often. If I don't reuse, that additional amount of oil to replace - coming from new oil - will really enhance the additive package until then next filter change.

My understanding is that the 2.7L powerplants are built in Japan.

Let me know where you end up. I’m hoping to tackle mine over thanksgiving while my wife is traveling with #1. Think I can just do it in the garage if I clean up well. Leaning 51% redline but might just go all in on amsoil. Need to get my order in soon I think.

@Pablo8 If my memory is still intact, you have done one full change of all fluids? Or at least both diffs and MT? I think you posted your selections in the MT fluid thread but I haven’t pulled them back out yet. Think you could cross post here? I guess we need to use that thread to figure out the crush washers and filters and other items which must be purchased separately?

Yes, all oily fluids changed. I have not done a brake fluid or coolant change, too early for that, but clutch hydraulic is Amsoil Brake Fluid.

I bought the washer set from Amazon

Front Diff: Amsoil SG 75W-90 (SVG) https://www.amsoil.com/p/severe-gear-75w-90-svg/?zo=515729
MT: Amsoil MTG 75W-90 (MTG) https://www.amsoil.com/p/manual-transmission-transaxle-gear-lube-75w-90-mtg/?zo=515729
    TC: Amsoil MTF(MTF) https://www.amsoil.com/p/manual-synchromesh-transmission-fluid-5w-30-mtf/?zo=515729
Rear Dif: Amsoil SG 75W-110 (SVT) https://www.amsoil.com/p/severe-gear-75w-110-svt/?zo=515729

No leaks, all was smooth. Use heat and hammer taps on the front differential drain. Super easy to strip the hex hole (10mm) - I replaced mine with a Dimple brand plug, plus that one uses the copper crush washer. The rear on mine was 15/16", NOT 24mm. Others 24mm, fill on front dif is also hex 10mm, but not as tight.
