Purchased a 2020 Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 Certified Used. It was a one owner leased Vehicle with only 25,000 miles. I drained out whatever mystery meat oil the dealer was using and switched over to Royal Purple 0W-20. Amsoil has an engine flush product that you dump into the engine oil right before changing it and let it run for 10 minutes then drain it out and start fresh with new oil and filter. Considering giving it a try when it's time to change the oil next time around. As far as the Royal Purple goes I know it does an amazing job cleaning the engine with additives and detergents and I've seen the proof. Once the truck hits 30,000 miles I'll be doing front and rear diff fluid along with the transfer case. Then at 60,000 is the transmission flush which I'll have the dealer do since its a sealed transmission.

I wouldn't bother, honestly even with bottom shelf oil these trucks are fine as long as it's changed on time. Correct weight and correct intervals are far more important than what brand / color the bottle is.

But definitely have the dealer service the trans once it's time, it's a good idea that most people never do

If you wanted to do a flush, I think you would have wanted to do it before you switched over to the Royal Purple. Since you now have that in your engine, I would continue to use that and not consider a flush. Just my opinion.

whatever oil the dealer was using before I switched over to royal purple was pretty clean and only had a few hundred miles on it so I guess that was sort of a flush in a way by draining clean oil and replacing with clean oil.

    waste of money to flush.

These engines are proven reliable on what Toyota recommends. In fact royal purple itself is a waste of money.

The factory oil on the free oil changes is high quality full synthetic, there will be no sludge in the engine from that.

The modern SN rated oils are fantastic (FYI, I don't think RP meets the current standard). These engines are proven to run for longer than the rest of the truck will last. Buy oil meeting the spec, change at the recommended interval, and worry not, anything else is throwing money away in a placebo. If you want proof, send a sample to Blackstone.

Use 0w-20 GF-6 oil like the manual says. I personally look for prices around $5/qt on Amazon.

Curious why you think a 25k motor needs a 'flush'? If it really does, why was it CPO and why did you buy it?

RP is a nice boutique product. So are Amsoil products. I use the word boutique because they are more expensive. Even if they have a bit better magic sauce than other products, the ROI as a value proposition isn't there on plebeian vehicles like Tacoma's.

I do think a transmission service at 60k will be a wise move, even though Toyota will tell you it's lifetime fluid.

I would never/ever use an engine flush. Specially on a newer engine.

what are your thoughts on a flush if your oil is showing signs of dirt/contaminants? I am planning on doing a few back to back oil changes in an effort to clean it up but if I am not able to I was looking at a flush to help get anything that's not slipping out.

Royal purple 0w-20 does indeed meet GF-6 requirements

Without having it analyzed, by someone like Blackstone. How do you know it has dirt, or contaminants in it? Regular oil changes are plenty good. If you don't like the 10k intervals, due 5k intervals with specified/recommend oil. Just because it changes color, doesn't mean it's bad, dirty, or contaminated.

I'm making a special at-home oil treatment, so that you can run your insufficient Mobil-1 in these delicate trucks. It will purify the detergents, add essential oils, and align the chakras.

Sure thing this is not due to the color I have been analyzing my oil by Blackstone for the past couple of years which is why I know. Higher levels of silicon and other minerals over a few changes. I did have a few dusty trips and narrowed it down because my airbox was letting dirt in above the filter. The last 4 were done every 3k to monitor and before that at most 5k. and using higher-end Amsoil Signature. There is no lack of good maintenance on it. The question was more about getting ahead of potential catastrophic issues down the line.

looked like part of the airbox was not sealing. That is the only area I can think of. It is the TRD intake and the back part kind of hooks on where the front uses clamps. My assumption is the rear part was not full hooked and allowed dust in. The truck is also setup with a snorkel and pre-cleaner and should not have as much dust in there that I had.

Seems to be somewhat of a common issue with Toyotas and that style of the airbox. In researching, there are Aussie brands that make nicer aluminum boxes. That would be rad to have stateside.
