About to have to change the engine oil on my 2022 TRD Off-Road with the 3.5L v6, and was doing some research on Oil to use. I've been looking at the Signature series 0w-20 from AMSOIL. However reading some other forums say the Signature series may not be the best and could cause issues with the emissions system?

Below is a quote from one of the forum users talking about the Signature series

"Pure synthetic using only Group IV (PAO) and Group V (Esters) base stocks. Very expensive. But does not meet API or manufacturer specifications and is not API approved due to additive package that may harm emissions systems, and because it does not meet specs for a fuel saving formulation. Therefore, technically does not meet Toyota warranty specs, although Amsoil claims they will warranty your engine if it fails due to an oil related issue during manufacture warranty term (not sure if Amsoil will warranty your emissions system).

Just use Mobil 1 or Kirkland 0W20. It’s way cheaper and exceeds oil requirements. Change it yourself every 5k and you’ll be lol set.

I have zero knowledge on that particular oil but why not just select another 0w-20, plenty of brands to.pick from.

Amsoil typically ranks higher on the engine oil testing (blackstone oil testing) and seems to handle better in colder weather.

Mobil 1 full synthetic. I’ve got the blackstone samples on a high mileage 4.7 with 10k OCI’s to prove it.

Not terribly expensive and easily sourced.

Don't know too much about Amsoil other than I've heard it's very good oil. I've been using Redline synthetic since 1995. When I pulled apart my race engine back in the day from a full season of hard racing ( road racing/ Watkins Glenn, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio etc.) that was enough for me I was sold on Redline. My other pick up truck (not Tacoma) an old beater with over 334,000 original miles runs on Redline. Motor has never been apart. Same as it's original trans. also with Redline.

Gentlemen Motor Oil is like a religion, there are many different kinds, and it's hard to convert. My 2 cents for what its worth. LOL

Is Amsoil an MLM thing? I got some straps off of a guy on marketplace and as we are standing there he asks me what kind of oil I use. He then hands me an “Amsoil independent retailer” business card and on the back it says “business opportunities — no ssn required”

No shade on those types of biz models but I wasn’t sure if the product was legit or not.

    Little known *fact*...

Get some cooking oil. Fry up some chicken. Enjoy the day.

Now the fact: Do the above instead of reading up on what motor oil to use and you will have a better life.

Probably one of the most posted topics here on TW. I have a tendency to overthink things like this as well. Lots of good oil’s out there, I think what’s most important is sticking with your maintenance schedule
