So I recently bought a new alternator because my previous one is out. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful advice or maybe a video link to a step by step tutorial for replacing an alternator. Im trying to save some $$$ and have the necessary tools to do so. Ive looked up videos but they're either not my truck or not clear enough. If anyone could help id appreciate it a lot

In my experience... this is just me.... go ahead and take the battery out of the truck. Don't just disconnect it.

I wound up taking mine out to get extra room to do something, don't remember what specifically though. I wished I had done it to start out.

Also be careful with the belt / idlers. I've had a grinding noise from one of my idlers ever since I changed my alternator.

Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Look kid, click on the bar menu above "Mods & Tutorials" then scroll down and
click on "2nd Gen How To's" then click on "How to remove/install 1GR-FE Alternator".

Unfortunately pictures have been deleted but still a very good write up IMO, but there is a video to follow on post #42.

When I was in college I could find most anything that a library offered through the card catalog. Looking back, what a pain in the butt. Now Google has indexed everything on the planet so anybody not in a coma can find anything. Tacomaworld - How to: Change the alternator on a 2nd gen Tacoma - is the first one listed when you use Google to search "changing tacoma alternator". Imagine that.
