@Dm93 so do you think there’s an issue with the grey wire. This is the second alternator and the 1st battery. That day after replacing the first alternator I drove a hour away and the truck started to cut off after draining the battery.

@Dm93 the rpm’s dropped and the truck bogged down. I’ve seen on some post people would say they cleaned the throttle bottle and it stopped the issue. I’m just not sure why the alternator isn’t charging the battery.

Does the charge warning light come on with the key on?

Have you checked the other wires like I outlined in the thread I posted above?

That will happen when battery voltage is extremely low.

Need to check the alt fuses. There are two of them and either being blown will create this issue. The big one doesn’t look like a typical fuse.

@ir172 I checked the 140 A alt fuse but doesn’t appear to be blown, the 7.5 A alt-s fuse looks good,30 A batt chg looks good.

I hope you figure this out but I learned the hard way that using a non-oem alternator is not the best choice when my original alternator finally took a dump at 400,*** something miles. good luck

Have you checked everything at the alternator???

    At the alternator connector:
Pin 1 (White) should have power at all times.
Pin 2 (Light Green) should have power with the key on.

The main wire attached to the stud on the back of the alternator should also have power at all times.

Most autozone type shops will check the charging system at no charge. Unless you didn't install the alt correctly, or damaged something in the process, my guess is the new alt is bad.

Did you check it with an ohm-meter or just eyeball it?
With the eyeball it may appear to be a good fuse and still be blown.

    This x2……..

That light green wire has been known to corrode inside the sheathing.
How it happens, I don’t know. But it’s happened enough that it’s not “uncommon”.

@Jimmyh I checked by just eyeballing it. I sent it to the shop but the guy showed pictures of the battery and the alternator both tested positive. Tomorrow I will pull the 7.5 and alternator fuse and ohm them out. Thanks for the help.

    Unplug this connector.

Turn key on, check for 12v on green wire.

Turn key off, check for power on white wire. IMG_3972.jpg
