Alternative Tacoma key fob

Anyone know if there's a way to get a different key fob with a push button flip out key instead of the original one that comes with the Tacoma? I know the key would have to be custom cut by Toyota and I have the push button start so that would probably also need to be programmed by Toyota. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap,just curious if anyone else has switched to a different type of fob.

Curious about why you want a particular style key when your truck is keyless.

I also have a Limited and the fob never comes out of my pocket as I never need the key.

 

For the times when I need to open the tailgate,I would actually rather find some way to get my tailgate to open with the rest of the doors when I grab the handle,I know there's a YouTube video of someone that was able to get his tailgate to open with the rest of the doors,but I'm not good with electrical wiring.

 

One of the first mods I did was adding a Pop & Lock. The tailgate locks and unlocks with the key fob and handle. It was a super easy install, and I imagine the cost for a new key would definitely me more than the pop & lock

 

Strongly suggest Pop & Lock.

 

I'm always worried about messing with the factory wiring,because if something goes wrong it's an easy out for Toyota.

 

Do you need to set the lock settings to all doors unlock once you install this for it to work when you touch the door handle to open the doors? Adding this and remote start would make this the perfect truck!

 

Depends how it is wired. You can wire it to lock/unlock with the driver’s door or the passenger’s.

Right now I have my doors set to unlock when I touch the handle. I would like the tailgate to unlock also when I walk up to my truck and touch the driver's side door handle.

 

That’s what I wanted as well. I got tired of taking the key out the fob every time to lock and unlock the tailgate. I read the threads on the pop & lock and watched the YouTube videos and decided to give it a try.

I installed the pop & lock and used the posi tap wire connectors, and no cutting of the factory wiring was necessary.

One everything was finished, all my doors including the tailgate unlock and lock with the key fob as well as touching the drivers side handle.

Just like @beergeek said adding the passenger handle will make this a perfect truck. Which is on my to do list.

 

Passenger handle add was my best mod to date... until I added the front camera. Now it’s a tie.

I might have to look into it,I don't trust myself to wire it so I'll have to take a trip to the truck shop down the street from me and see what he can do. Adding that and maybe a remote start(remote start with phone app would be awesome) and I would be set!

If you get the pop n lock and set the settings on your head unit to unlock all doors when drivers side is touched, then the whole vehicle including tailgate unlocks or else it’s double unlock button on the fob. If you wire to the drivers side, then you can leave your setting to only unlock drivers door for the smart touch entry and your pop n lock will unlock with o let the drivers door, the rest of the vehicle will stay locked and kw it’s single unlock tap on the fob that will unlock just the drivers door and tailgate.

I’m working on a project to make the tailgate independently unlocked via smart phone module app by using and auxiliary output from the remote starter module that ties with a button that can be created within the app to do so. It’s a tricky circuit but I’m taking a stab at it in the next few weeks and will sell this feature as an add on to the remote starters and smart app based modules I currently sell.

Then when the FOB portion works, take it to a locksmith that can cut it for you.

The programming method above may not work, but some of it claims u to 2018...worth a shot. There are other ways to program it, just research and don't have a dealer do it. Arm and a Leg unless you ave friends there.
