I have not purchased car stereo speakers in decades. For those who have experience what speaker would you go with for a Gen3 DBL Cab with the NON-JBL Entune system?

    • Kicker 47KSC6504
    • Alpine SPE-6000
    • JL Audio C1-650

    Stock HU
    No extra Amp (yet)
    Subaru Tweeters
Not looking for "Loud", looking for clarity and depth of sound.

I have the Kicker KS in my truck and my wife’s car and I love them for the money.

I installed tons of those alpines and I’m personally not crazy about them. A little bright for my ears. If you like your cymbal crashes a bit on the louder side, that would be a good option.

never heard the JL. The ones you listed are components so they’d have you pull the Subaru (kicker) tweeters out. They’re aluminum dome tweeters which lean on that brighter side as well. My ears don’t like that, but we all have different ears

I put in a Alpine HU with a 250W Amp on JBL GTO speakers and love them

    A. Please edit your thread title from LJ to JL so my OCD will stop screaming at me. ;)

    B. Look into adding a Kicker Key 200.4 amplifier. I swapped door speakers and added a good sheet of deadened to each door, and it helped, but the Kicker Key really makes the new speakers sing.

Of the speakers you listed I'd ignore the Kicker and Alpines.

    JL Audio C1-650 - Component - $150
    • Tweeter 3/4" aluminum dome
    • 50 watts RMS (225 watts peak)
    • frequency response: 48-24,000 Hz
    • sensitivity: 93 dB at 2.83 volts
    • impedance: 4 ohms
Like Destin said, metal material tweeters are just more harsh. Also they added at least $30 because it has a JL badge and all you really get is that tasty sensitivity. I'd say buy these if it weren't for the tweeter and the cost for what is supposedly an entry level set.

    Hertz Uno K 165 - Component - $120
    • Tweeter 15/16" PEI (plastic) dome
    • 75 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
    • frequency range: 55-23,000 Hz
    • sensitivity: 93.5 dB
    • impedance: 4 ohms
MUCH nicer sized tweeter, plastic is a bit of a down side. Better power handling, same sensitivity. Hertz has Tetolon (some kind of fancy bullshit fabric) tweeters but you have to spend about $200 more to get into them. Kind of a bummer. These are fairly equivalent to the JLs but for a much more appropriate price.

    Some 6x9 options:

For $300 - $400 you can get into these. They are tits. I like the AV 1.1 over the AP 1 however.

For about $225 you can get into these. They are probably decent.

Out of your choices I would say JL

Hybrid Audio has some great speakers, I used Hybrid Audio Legatia and Hertz with Rockford Fosgate amps. I also used Audison digital signal processor.

I used them in my setup when I was competing in sound quality contest.

This was all in a 97 Tacoma

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
    Ok. My 2c,
I have replaced all 6 speakers with JL audio. First impression - WOW! Love it!
Next 2 weeks... Without amp, have to keep audio level +25 (at least), and bass seems insufficient to me.
Have added Kenwood amplified subwoofer under driver seat. Now it's very satisfying for me, if we talking about depth of sound and clarity.

Not sure if it’s too late but check out Image Dynamics. I think these are the best for the buck by far.
