Alpine ILX Needs Parking Brake Engage Signal

Need to get a "Parking Brake Engage" signal to a new Alpine ILX-509 according to Crutchfield. Made it to 99% install on the new Alpine when i did an ops test and noticed the Setup Menu was grayed out.
Anyone know what other options exist to bypass/jump this requirement so the Alpine acts as if the P-Brake is engaged?

You need to find out what it's looking for, it should tell you in the instructions.
I would have to assume you would either need to supply 12v or a ground to that wire.

 

Thats the million $ question. Trying to figure out what that signal is…

 

Ok looking at this closer based on the wire they want you to tap into according to your picture you would need to ground the parking brake signal wire for it to "see" the parking brake engaged.

Looks like you would still need to be able to switch it though from what I'm reading in the manual for the radio:

To display the Setup Menu screen: Your vehicle must be parked with the ignition key in the ACC or ON position. To do this, follow the procedures below. 1 Bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe location. Engage the parking brake. 2 Release the parking brake. (For safety, release the parking brake while depressing the foot brake pedal). 3 Engage the parking brake again. • For automatic transmission vehicles, place the transmission lever in the Park position. • “Simple Sound Settings” (page 13) and “Connectivity Setup” (page 20) can be set even not engaging the parking brake. Now, the locking system for the Setup operation has been released. Engaging the parking brake can reactivate the Setup Menu, as long as the car’s ignition has not been turned off. It is not necessary to repeat the above procedure (1 through 3). Each time the ignition is turned OFF, perform the above procedure.

 

@Dm93 That procedure seems like a giant PIA. I wonder if anyone has rooted that unit and provided a firmware update? The only way to trick that it with a 2 pole switch wired to the parking brake sense wire on the units harness. One side to the unit the other to ground. Then you just start the car and flick the switch on/off/on to fool the radio into thinking you are doing the needed steps to access the menu.

 

Just get one of the bypass kits you wire in to the unit harness.

 

A bypass doesn't work the way Alpine designed the procedure to enter the setup menu. Unless that bypass can send an on/off/on signal to the unit which I've never seen a bypass be able to do.

 

I used one on an

ilx-w650 I imagine the process is no different. It had the same parking brake type input, not the old ground style. The bypass is either a 3 lead or 4 lead I can’t remember what I bought.

I had an Alpine in my previous Taco that called for this parking brake interlock. Not sure why everyone feels like there should be a hack or workaround. Tapping into that wire is not a big deal, and it's a one-time thing.
