Alpharex NoVa 2023 TRD OR - What am I doing wrong?

So began installing the alpharex nova headlights. Got the driver side done with the harness they gave me with the instructions they have on their site + r4t and Jesse Stones YouTube videos.

Can’t get the passenger working correctly with the dancing DRL crap.
Snipped the fuse tape and connected their single red harness.

Also when I turn on the headlights the driver side DRL lights shut off. WHAT THE FOOK am I doing wrong.

 

I really dont want to come off as a jerk, but the Alpharex headlights are not very good. Please look at some of the threads Crashnburn has done on lighting. Lots of good information there.

 

I spent 6 weeks working with their customer service to fix issues I had with my luxx. They were incredibly resistant to start the return process. Best thing I ever did was file for protection with my credit card.

More power to you if you want to stick with it. Most people on this forum have a distaste for alpharexx, might not be much help here.

 

From the sounds of it and a many- the first sentence is what you’re doing wrong.

I’m starting to see that.
Something is wrong with the driver or the actual headlights. when I unlock the driver does the dancing etc and DRL turns on. When I turn on the headlights the DRL turns off and the passenger one only turns on. LOL WTF. Also noticed my corner amber in the driver sides doesn’t work.

 

F it. Oem LED ordered. Damnit YouTube and Chloe Kuo.
Hopefully they accept this return.

 

Very good! OE LED’s are the best of the best. No need to cap that nice truck off w the booshit.

 

The sidemarker socket on the driver's side has a bent pin. It even shows in their stock photo. I straightened it with a pocket screwdriver:



I didn't bother with the DRL harness. The dancing light pattern shows when I start the truck or if I turn on the driving lights.

^Yeah then by all means return the lights. It's a straight-up defect.

 

Also have the AlphaRex headlights and I'm not impressed. I purchased a set during black Friday cause my stock headlights started to peel. I installed them around Nov and the driver side DRL seems like it does whatever the fuck it wants. Sometimes in the morning it will do the dance like normal when unlocking sometimes it doesn't come on. When at a stop in the morning I see a reflection on my headlights and my passenger DRL is on but my driver is off. When I shut off my headlights the driver side DRL will do the dance. All of this is super intermittent, sometimes they work fine. I was just about to contact AlphaRex today but after reading this thread it doesn't even sound like they are willing to help.

 

Just got the OEM LED's installed, with the FBC harnesses, and it was not a cheap affair, but really happy with the results.

When it comes to headlights, I will only go with OEM, based largely on the info I've read over the years on this site (mostly the detailed write ups from @CrashN'Burn).

I have Alpharex tails, and love them, but they're a lot cheaper, and easier to replace than headlights, and aren't as critical.

 

I’d still contact them. Just to show your cc company you made an attempt to reach out.

the funny thing is when I called CS they said their instructions were wrong and to use the add a fuse even though I have a OR model. Only reason why I got this was to avoid this since my fuses are being used for my switch pros.

 

Something is probably loose in the circuit board or wire attachment inside the headlight. Contact Alpharex for warranty repair or replacement. They have a 2-year warranty (which is longer than the 1-year warranty Toyota provides on OEM parts). When I broke one headlight in an ORV park, I found Alpharex was responsive to warranty queries, but to my dismay won't sell me a single headlight.

 

Good call with the OEM LEDs. I have those on my truck and they are by far the best headlights I've ever had. Let us know what you think after your first night drive.

 

How is this company still in business or at the very least still selling this product if it has so many faults

 

their stuff is made in china. the poor QC does not surprise me at all whatsoever.

 

agreed, I would still try! They are going to keep selling this shit until it costs em.

 

Profit margins are high vs. what they paid to import them from VLand in China.

Reliability is likely better than other aftermarket headlights in the same price range. For example, the Morimoto XB appears to have a 30% failure rate going by the reports in this "official" thread.
