Has anyone installed alpha rex headlights with either the nova or Luxx series on a TRD Model Tacoma 3rd Gen? I'm planning to get it before Black Friday ends. I've been looking at a lot of videos about them splicing a gray wire to the TRD converter to make the activation dance light work and some said they didn't have to. Anyone who did install them before, did yall splice it, or is there another way around it? Let me know, thank you!

Also for Morimoto users, is it plug-and-play, or do I have to splice it too?

I currently have the 2022 TRD SPORT 4x4 TACOMA

AlphaRex is hot garbage, not a legitimate headlight and does not have a legitimate headlight pattern. Definitely do not be fooled into downgrading to that cheap Chinese trash, it would be a massive downgrade from stock. See more info here.

Morimoto is definitely better but still not great as covered in the v2.0 review in post #4548 here.

OEM LED headlight assemblies are by far the best, covered in post #3626 here.

Edit: You should also know, AlphaRex is just a flipper of cheap China alibaba quality headlights. They don't manufacture their own products, they just resell cheap Chinese units at huge markups.

Lol brighter. Brighter means nothing, it's all about how far the light goes. Read the links above. There have been numerous real tests conducted to show which headlights are shit (yours) and which ones work best (OEM). But, if you are going strictly for looks, your look good, they just don't work good.

Yes, they are brighter, immediately in front of the truck with foreground light where headlights are supposed to have minimal light intensity output. They are significantly less bright at the top of the pattern in distance light, where headlights are supposed to have peak intensity output, to see distance. Super bright foreground light isn’t helpful, it is harmful. You don’t need to see 30’ in front of your truck driving at 60 mph, you need to see distance. And having super bright foreground light causes your pupils to constrict, further reducing your night distance vision. Even worse it draws your visual attention down from the headlight horizon to the short range light causing you to not focus where you should be for night driving. The entire pattern is literally backward and not a legitimate headlight pattern, and not from a credible manufacturer. But to compound things even more, people visually judge light output based on light closest to them, aka foreground light. So you end up with people on the internet not understanding automotive lighting design saying these lights are great, for all the reasons of why they are actually so terrible. And thus garbage products thrive.

Man, I paid just over $400 for mine, which I got on Ebay. They are LEDs with sequential turn signals, which I wasn't really looking for, but they were part of the package. I wanted blackout chrome with clear lenses, due to various state laws regarding smoked lenses. I like the way they look, and the headlights are really good too. Of course, the sequential turn signals look actually better than I had thought, so I actually ended up liking them. Here is a pic of mine...TRD08072021d.jpg

    A few.
Had a set of the Alpharex Luxx series for over a year now. No problems with them. I didnt care for the look of internals on the Morimoto with the 3 globes personally. What I liked about the Luxx series is they mimic the oem design with a blacked out look. I wasnt gonna pay $1500 for a set if oem personally

Overall light output is slightly better than the oem halogens but with led white light vs the yellowish halogen.

For the 2 wires that power the start up sequence I just used quick connectors

No, you are choosing to not believe actual test results and facts. If you like them that's cool but they are not a good headlight and that's fact

Exactly.... you should see the amount of people on the 4Runner fbook pages that are completely clueless and argue all the time. They are constantly jerking it to these Lasfit LEDs. I wish crashnburn could test those to further legitimize what I've been telling people for years. Ignorant jerks who ignore science.

LOL Lasfit can’t even copy and rip off a product correctly, covered in high detail in post #370, much less engineer and design a proper one from the ground up on their own. They are likely just reselling white labeled cheap Chinese replacement LEDs, as many do. Anyone promoting Lasfit lacks any lighting credibly.

I could be less bothered tbh. I don’t do my research so I won’t act like I do haha. Just saying my headlights have no problems and they were a lot better than stock Oem ones. I like my headlights you guys enjoy yours :).

I have a '20 Sport and bought the Morimotos. They've been in almost 3 years now with zero issues and I love them. I like the style the way they fill up the whole headlight housing instead of stock and most of the other aftermarket having the space at the bottom. I just think it looks better. Mine didn't come with the OEM LEDs so I can't comment on the light output comparison. I put HIDs in my '13 Taco and those were definitely brighter than the Morimotos though. I was going back and forth on Kustom 54 HIDs and the Morimotos. I think if I could do it over again I'd go with the Kustom 54s for the more unique look and I kind of miss having the HIDs. Not sure if you can get that kind of crisp brightness out of LEDs but like I said, I haven't driven with the OEMs. I'd be surprised if they were that much better than the Morimotos though (meaning the difference between what I have now and the HIDs I had in my old truck).
