alluminum versus polyurethane

    header,short rack and pinion, heavy duty shocks, grill guard, flowmaster exhaust,pacesetter header without catalytic converter, one 10 inch xant sub with a mtx amp, off road lights,diamondplate tool box,rhinolined inside cab,ngk plugwires.
    looking into a spacer lift for the truck, dont know which to get a polyurethane or an alluninum spacer. doing about 3 inches

    oh and the alluminum is the block that goes above to coil and shock assembly

    I ran an aluminum one on mine and did well, poly spacer tend to wear down and sag

    Not really, only thing i noticed was that it swayed more than stock, other than that wasnt too bad

    33" mudders
    3 inches sounds like a lot for a spacer lift. why not get bilstein 5100s for like $200 and lift it 2.75 inches. :confused:

    I'd stay away from a spacer kit that goes above the coil assembly.

    Actually I have the same crap lift in whatever flavor you want. I never used either, went the right way with 5100s. I have the cast ones for top of strut or the poly for inside the strut. Cheap cheap for whoever wants them or I'll just tho them up in the pay it forward thread. Damn, glad I saw this again cause I was needing something to put up after I take something from there. Spacers coming soon to a free thread near you! Just pay shipping.

    Because it extends the strut assembly length & slowly (or not) fucks your ball joints to death by making them extend beyond their normal range of movement. (if offroading much at all) If just poser mall crawler then probably no problems...I said probably.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    It lengthens the shock/spring assembly, causing your balljoints to wear out, and can lead to breakage of your shocks if off roading..

    Those guys already answered it nicely.

    As already mentioned, if you don't offroad...you're probably fine.

    Offroading causes lots of suspension travel and that's where the problems can occur.

    ordered the bilsteins finally broke down once i fix my engine and figure out whats wfrong ill put them on with the new tires

    I would agree that is a lot for spacers.. one inch aluminum blocks are ok for back. even two...

    Performance- bored .20 over, Doug Thorely Headers, Magnaflow Exhaust, and K&N cold air intake. Exterior- Trail Gear Solid Axle Swap, ARB compressor, high pinion 4.88 with ARB locker, 4.88 TRD Locker in the rear. Interior- 2 10inch JL W1 subs, Alpine MRX-V70 amp, Alpine type R SPR 17C 6x6 speaker in the back, Focal 165 VR with crossover tweeter up front, and Weather Tech floor mats.
    I had the 2 inch aluminum spacer on my 01 tacoma and it broke the cv join blew the shock and stressed the upper ball joint.

    3 inch suspension lift, 33 inch bfgoodrich mud terrain tires, toytech diff drop, Procomp alloy wheels, hella fog lights, black projector headlights with 8000k HID's, blacked out tail lights, two 12 inch subs, 20% tint, pioneer head unit and speakers
    either if you go spacer or new struts they both extend the control arms and wear the ball joints. so i dont see any problem with the spacer idea.

    They dont extend the control arms. CA's are fixed in length. Top Plate spacers lengthen the shock/spring combo, thus overextending ball joints, and the shocks. Pre load spacers, or coil springs are "Captive", there for not adding length to the assembly, but rather giveing lift by changing the spring rate.

    but if they arent giving it lift to the assembly then how is it considered lifted
